Deadly Premonition
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Feb 23, 2010
An open-world action-adventure game following an eccentric FBI agent as he investigates a series of bizarre murders in the small rural town of Greenvale.
Deadly Premonition has broken the 50k sales mark!
Zach would be proud to hear about this. Thanks to everyone who made this happen. You all are full of win.
" Ha ha ha. I have developed the bad habit of picking up all the games that they do Endurance Run of. "All of 2 games?
" While I love the Endurance Run, the fact that a game this crappy sold that much kind of sucks. "Why does it suck? The developers will hopefully now be sitting on a much more comfortable nest egg which they can use to improve their next game. At least it's not a Tony Hawk's RIDE scenario. That's a lot worse.
I hate to break it to you guys, but even a budget game like this developed and sold on-the-cheap probably didn't even break even on the development costs for selling 50k.
Not at $20/disc when you consider that $8 of that goes to MS and it's costing at least $4 to print and wrap the disc and ship it, not to mention the stores need a markup, usually 10%, so $2 there.
At most they are making $8/disc, which equates to $400,000. Sure, that's a good chunk of money but if the game was made for less than a million I will eat my socks. (I do not own a hat)
" @The_A_Drain: It sold 50K in the US. It's a Japanese game. It was released in Japan. It probably sold well over 50k there, too. "
I certainly hope so, don't get me wrong, I like to see developers succeed.
If it did, then it probably broke even. Which, in itself is an achievement considering the amount of games that fail to even do that.
" Deadly Premonition 2 confirmed? "Hopefuly, if we ever see a second DP game, the gameplay will be, well, in some way polished.
" Just as long as we get a Deadly Premonition 2. "I'd see a Euro release first tbh. Don't want this to end up like Parasite Eve or Xenosaga.
Parasite Eve, we got 2 but not 1. wtf.
Xenosaga even worse, we got 2 but not 1 or 3?! WHAT THE/!?
Well deserved. We need more unique games like this, I hope this will incentivise other developers to make something different.
" According to VGChartz, the sales are:Those Japanese sales... I could fit all of the people who bought DP in Japan into my garden.
So, the game is not selling bad at all, taking into account it is a budget game that had no hope of selling many copies. BTW, Japenese sales are just awful! O_O "
Well, FES was an expansion pack, can you blame the people who bought Persona 3 for not wanting to plop down 60$ again?" Deadly Premonition has sold more than Persona 3 FES. This is depressing. "
The original sold twice as much as DP.
On that note: GO DEADLY PREMONITON, NOW WE'RE SHOOTING FOR THE 100K
Too bad Ignition USA benefits from the profit....Fuck:(
Unfortunately, you are crazy for thinking that. This game has been a redux of No More Heroes for Marvelous - the game is doing pretty well outside Japan where they only get a cut because of licensing, but it tanked in Japan." @The_A_Drain: It sold 50K in the US. It's a Japanese game. It was released in Japan. It probably sold well over 50k there, too. "
Oh, and even though no one asked - Persona 3 FES sold 11,000 copies in America. They were expecting to only sell 5,000.
" @The_A_Drain: It sold 50K in the US. It's a Japanese game. It was released in Japan. It probably sold well over 50k there, too. "Did you even look at the OP? I don't know how accurate VGChartz is, but from the link in destructoid's post it is fucking dying in Japan. Like 600 copies in the first week dying.
I'll just quote myself:" @mutha3 said:
" Too bad Ignition USA benefits from the profit....Fuck:( "Enlighten me; Why is that bad? "
My problem with Ignition is the fact that, they are among the worst localizers in the industry right now. They have taken, and ruined, many Japanese games from small publishers and given it the worst possible voice work they can find. Also, they outsource their localizations.
Here is some of their ''amazing'' work:
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/827196/epoch-project/videos/arcrise_gmp_battle_41910.html
They're basically the opposite of Atlus when it comes to localization.
And before you mention it:
DP? The localization and voice acting wasn't done by Ignition, but by the fine gentlemen at XSEED. The only part of the game Ignition got their hands on, was the dialogue boxes.....now think to yourself, which part of DP is full of spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and a complete and utter lack of understanding basic aspects of the English language(you stuffed your face!)
Just....just...just look at that video I just posted if you want to see what DP would have been like if Ignition would have localized it.
Aren't you thinking about Rising Star games(Yurop branch of Marvelous), who were rumored to bring out DP in Europe?" @mutha3: Actually I'm pretty sure Deadly Premonition's localization was done by Marvelous, not XSEED. But yeah, Ignition is pretty awful. "
I though it was localized internally? I do know for certain it got localized and voiced in Japan.
" Aren't you thinking about Rising Star games(Yurop branch of Marvelous), who were rumored to bring out DP in Europe? I though it was localized internally? I do know for certain it got localized and voiced in Japan. "Exactly, which is why Marvelous did the localization. XSEED is a private company and is in no way affiliated with Marvelous now that their publishing partnership is over, so the localization was done by two guys at Marvelous in Japan and programmed by Access.
I applaud those two guys who worked on it then! The dialogue was surprisingly decent seeing how it was written by two dudes in a country which doesn't have English as its native language.
The VA is also surprisingly well-cast. I simply can't think of a better VA for York. Its perfect.
@Robitt:
The only thing Shane is good at is speaking in hyperboles. You should dig up the embarrassing statements he made when he was interviewed.
''Ignition does things no other niche game localizers have ever done!''
You got that one right, Shane.
(not an exact quote, he said something along these lines)
" Doesn't Shane from 1up work for ignition? :P ""Director of New Business Development." Though my next question is that if they're supposedly serious about localizing random Japanese games and have the backing of an Indian media conglomerate, why can't they afford to hire a localization staff or a talented company like 8-4 to handle things? :\
