I played Demon's Souls quite a bit when it first came out, my main save has 12 hours on it. But that was mostly aimless as probably many others experienced. I never went back to it until now. A lot of people suggest different things for people new to the game. Most guides or tips have specific outlines of what to do. The better ones I've seen seem to suggest getting the good shields and weapons early and the game becomes a lot easier. Like making a Blueblood Sword build with a Royal. But I am not that good at playing the game. Most guides explain that Vangaurd in the tutorial is quite easy and show the basic strategy to beat him, too bad I can barely get 2 soul shots on him before he rapes my ass., easy huh. Should I just say fuck it and just play whatever way i want even if it it means playing the game aimlessly? Or should I actually try to follow the directions many seasoned players give and build a charter with a specific weapon or whatever in mind? My ps3 is not online since my router crapped out, so I technically dont have to worry about being invaded if that becomes an issue for new players like myself.
Demon's Souls
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Oct 06, 2009
Demon's Souls is an action-RPG developed by From Software and released in 2009. It quickly became popular within hardcore circles for its relentlessly steep difficulty level, deep combat system, and unique multiplayer integration.
Fairly new to Demon's Souls should I follow a guide or wing it?
Figure out what you're doing first, then if you don't feel like playing the admittedly hardcore gameplay style, then just wing it. That's how I played it at least.
If you're planning on playing PvP then follow a guide, otherwise you should be fine just playing it by how you feel.
You might want to start with a guide to get you over the initial hurdles and find some important items (Cling Ring, Ring of Great Strength, Thief Ring, and Purple Flame Shield are all in the first level, and are useful the entire game) but after that you can safely wing it.
Just take it slow and don't worry about all the advice people give you. They're never telling you the best way to play, just their preferred way to play. Find your own playstyle.
Most enemies are killed very easily by blocking their attacks and countering, and most bosses are easy if you have light enough armor to fast roll. Other than that it's just learning the levels and patience.
I think the only real reason to do all that is to get trophies, right? I mean, I got through the first play through with the MC and Lava Bow, none which are upgradable." @MrOldboy: A lot of the stuff in the guides is is crazy hard to get. I beat the game using mostly Winged Spear +3ish and the stuff I mentioned above. All the crafting of insane swords and hunting down Crystal Geckos just drove me nuts and turned out to be unnecessary. "
I winged it on my first playthrough with a winged spear and purple flame shield. The few times I looked at a guide (video guide) was when I went up against a tough boss and needed to see how to beat it, like the Flamelurker and the Maneater. God damn it do I hate those two fuckers. I'd rather face the Old Hero 2 times in row than face those bosses.
Like Spoonman671 said, there is no right way, only a preferred way to play. And with that in mind, I'll just tell you how I personally enjoyed the game the most:
One of the biggest attractions of Demon's Souls for me is the story and it's setting. By just slowly discovering the the world by trial and error the game gave me a wonderful experience. Worry about items and world tendency in later playthroughs, and when you're stuck or feel the game is slowing down to much for your own liking, look up a guide. But don't let it spoil too much.
And try having fun of course, that advice always works for any playstyle.
OK well I guess I'll just wing it after the early game. Once I get my character started and have a playstyle settled on I'll just go on freely. I'll probably need help on some bosses, but otherwise I should be fine to complete the game. But I guess if i want to build a specific type of character thats when I should turn to guides.
Actually just started it myself for the 1st time this evening, that game hurts. Got the Black Phantom edition, its been about 20 years since I read an instruction manual, but I think you need to for this game.
" Just make sure you use more skill. "That's the mistake most people make with Demon's Souls. You're actually supposed to use less skill. The game never bothers to explain that to you though.

Ha! Vanguard easy? Maybe if you take the time to learn the exact routine and pattern, and have an extreme patience, but the point of that boss is that he's not really meant to be beat. He's designed to kick your ass and send you to the nexus :) People have figured out how to take him down, but don't base your sucking at the game on that one boss battle. But I am not that good at playing the game. Most guides explain that Vangaurd in the tutorial is quite easy and show the basic strategy to beat him, too bad I can barely get 2 soul shots on him before he rapes my ass., easy huh.
I'd highly recommend reading up quite a bit on

This was a really helpful resource for me. When I was into it, I'd play a bunch at night and read up on the wiki while at work :) I also agree, though, that you need to find what works for you. Despite people saying the Makoto blade isn't that great - it worked really well for me, for example.
