Demon's Souls Forum

Alright, so totally nooby question here- I am not far into demons souls (Dragon age been eating my time, and the mrs stealing the ps3 for ratchet)  and have only just breached into 1-2, that bastard red dragon giving me no end of grief - but thats another story for another day. 
 
Throughout the game ive been finding lots of unknown soldier and hero souls - i've been harvesting these and not using them just in case they were useful in some way. 
  
I managed to get myself killed by a pack of dogs, and then died again due to that dragon en route to my body, meaning i lost everything - nevermind- press on - well now i found a nice bow i can use to take that fucking dragon out and get him off my back -problem being i need arrows - no two ways about it - and i have very few souls. 
 
Now the item description for the souls say that using them adds to your soul count - and i also have the leader soul for defeating the phalanx, think it would be wise to use these bad boys up to get some souls and buy arrows? or do the souls have a much better purpose i should hold on for?

Yes! I forgot about that my frist time through that area too!  Also unless your stats make you good with a bow I don't think it would be worth it to even try to take down the dragon because you would probably need ALOT of arrows.

Same. The octomen, when you get how to kill them, are pretty easy. They give around 500 souls each as well.

the unknown hero/solder souls are all for you to eat and get souls from never ever ever ever eat the souls of the bosses the boss souls get you new spells, miracles, and special weapons once you rescue sage freke, the witch and the saint  also it takes over 150 arrows to kill the red dragon and it's not that hard to not get hit by the dragon just look for his pattern and run while he is still ahead of you  "

Also i spent a shit-ton on arrows and took that dragon out! was bad-ass when he finally went down and i could go over the bridge without getting raped, and get that winged spear, which is serving me well - i then went back to where the dragon was in 1-1 and got some neat stuff there as well :D 
 
Im facing the tower knight now, however i've been informed that i wont be able to proceed far into 1-3 straight away because i need a key or something? 
I dunno, i reckon imma finish 1-2 then move into a different archstone altogether

to get to 1-3 you have to be the third boss of any other world
