Honestly, since there are two other mages that can help you out, you can kill him after you learn all his spells.

Yurt's a great guy, once you get to know him. He just has anger issues he needs to deal with while he's in the Nexus.

I didn't give him a chance to do anything in or outside the Nexus. Soon as I saw him I said "Hi, I really like your armor." Then I stabbed him to death. I only learned of his anger management issues after a few hours of running around going "LOOK AT MY SWEET ARMOR OMFG BADASS LOL" when I went to GameFAQs to find some info.
