So I went through most of the VoG hard mode this weekend with a group of duders. It was a nighmare and it seriously made us look forward to the reset on Thuesday when we'll be able to do normal mode again and destroy it in 40 minutes. So here's a small guide only applicable until they patch these exploits out. For the record, we were all lvl 29 except one dude who was lvl 28 for the first part. After that even with everyone at 29 and good weapons, we have yet to beat the stage just before the atheon boss fight.
So the part outside the door of the vault is as easy as ever. Enemies are lvl 26 and you can respawn. Don't worry. shit will hit the fan as soon as you get inside.
When you get inside and from that point on your number one priority should be to not die ever. I can't stress this enough: do not die. If you have a choice between playing it safe or killing a few enemies, play it safe every time. Why you ask? In hard mode, there is no revive until the next checkpoint. Sunsingers can self raise but everyone else can't die unless you're very close to the next checkpoint. You're still checkpointed but making it through a section is terribly demanding if you're not lvl 30.
Anyway checkpoints are in the usual spots: after you defend the 3 conflux, after you destroy the oracles 5 or 6 times, after you kill the first boss, when you get down to the maze, when you all get through the maze, after the jumping section and after you get the 2 relics and defend the conflux.
For the first part (conflux defence) you should opperate the same way you did in normal mode but with a small twist. Between conflux stages, when the conflux disappear and you get the templar summons his legion message run the fuck away. Get to to the pillars on the right and left closest to the entrance. Those are usually hobgoblins spawns but not until the second part. When you're there wait/shoot the enemies until they despawn and repeat until you've done it 3 times.
You can cheese the next 2 parts easily. You'll need a bunch of icebreakers though. Look up a video of how to do it. It's a little complicated with all the specific positioning.
They doubled the number of gorgons in the maze because fuck you. Don't forget to grab the chest on the left, it has stuff in it even if you got it already. Now from the moment you spawn, go straight wait for the first patrol on the first left turn, go that way but hughing the rock on the right side. Jump up the big triangular rock in the middle of the room. From the top, jump to the left rock then the right rock, always staying above the level. That skips most of the labyrinth. Now the exit is down to the right. Wait for the right moment between patrols and get there.
Jumping puzzle is easy.
From that point though you're on your own. We beat our heads against this wall for like 6 hours yesterday. The hardest part seems to be protecting the plate since those prathorians are real assholes. For the first gate assault team, stick to the left side and kill both prathorians as fast as you can. Don't underestimate goblins, they're dicks. Make sure you have good void weapons and a void walker to nuke the gatekeeper in the second gate and look out for those hobegoblins. If you can make it through that part and have a bunch of warlocks in your team you should be able to cheese the boss by making him walk off the edge.
Good luck
