    Deus Ex: Human Revolution Review

The Deus Ex franchise finally reappears and it is time to take on the mantle of Jansen, an ex-cop, now security for Sarif Industries. It all starts one night when you are about to escort a scientist, and love interest to go talk of the discovery that she thinks will revolutionize augmentations in humans. That's when it goes all wrong and the building comes under attack. You have to fight your way through to try to rescue not only that scientist but many others before it is too late. Not to give too much away, but you're just a bit late and get severely injured. Once you recover, though, you come back wanting to know what exactly happened, and this is where the real game starts.

Graphically this game definitely screams next generation (or whatever you want to call the XBOX 360). Sadly its early next gen. There's some wierd kind of overly glossy imaging going on that really grated on my nerves about halfway through the game. There's also the fact that the motions of the characters are jerky and you almost fear that some might be going into a seizure. All the areas that you'll be going through have a faint yellowish tint to them, but I don't think its enough to distract you to the point of not being able to play the game.

The music definitely fits the game. It gets you pumped up and also tells you of the mood that the current surroundings is in. If there's trouble, or people are on high alert you get a more intense musical selection. The voice work is outstanding, I did enjoy the script, though there was definitely some stereotyping with certain voices.

The controls take a bit to get used to. Trying to focus on aiming your weapon is probably the most difficult part. Aside from the sniper rifle I never really felt comfortable aiming any of the weapons in the game. There was also a slight issue of after you've enhanced your augmentations to run longer or jump higher that the controls really didn't feel like they responded exactly how you would expect them to.

So as I stated before you're playing the part of Jensen, and though sometimes he goes through slight voice changes, he's a pretty solid character to play with. You'll have a wide variety of weapons at your disposal, sniper rifle, revolver, shotgun, pistol, rocket launcher, and more. You'll also have to keep an eye out for ammo so that you can use the guns throughout the game. I believe this game is suppose to be more about stealth than combat, at least that's what I hope it is because the aiming and combat just didn't feel right to me. No matter the setting or what types of augementations you have a couple of stray bullets might knock you out for good. Even though sometimes the same amount of bullets in a less armored foe doesn't take them down. There's also the issue of falling, or jumping and missing. If you fall any further than 12 feet, no matter what there's a very good chance that even at full health you will find yourself having to restart from the last checkpoint. Speaking of checkpoints the autosave feature will save at some very strange times and if you didn't manually save soon before you might find yourself loading right into a gun fight over and over again, until be some act of god you find a way to survive the first couple of rounds and fight your way through the area.

I will admit I've never played a Deus Ex game before, but with all the hype that people have been giving the series over the years, coupled with the amount of excitement over the fact that the series was coming back, I had to play this game. I found that this was an interesting game, and one I definitely wanted to see through, even with the flaws that sometimes mounted. Would I say that people need to run out and get this game, definitely not, but it is definitely a game to at least put on your must rent list. For me this is yet another game that once through and I'm done, that's why I say rent it. So without delaying much more, I give you my rating of the game, a 6.9 out of 10.

I had very little experience with the Deus Ex franchise coming into Human Revolution, and yet I was more than a little skeptical about its effort to revive a nearly decade old franchise. Fortunately my fears were unfounded, as Deus Ex: Human Revolution stays true to what makes the franchise unique while also applying the proper updates to successfully drag it into the modern era. The result is pretty rad.Let’s get this out of the way first- Human Revolution has a laundry list of unfortunate blem...

Despite Some Rough Edges, This Revolution Is Worth Taking Part In 0

The original Deus Ex, released back in 2000, is considered by some to be one of the best RPG’s of the last generation. It offered a level of choice in how players accomplished their goals that was groundbreaking at the time, which allowed for a lot of flexibility in how it was played. The newly released prequel to the original game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, promises to maintain that level of choice while crafting it’s own identity and updating the gameplay for modern players. While some of its...
