Devourer is a strength hero that fights for the Hellbourne in the game, Heroes of Newerth, who is best known for his 'hook' attack in which he literally grabs a unit and pulls them towards himself. Consuming and destroying all in its path, the corpulent, putrid Devourer exists only to feed. No pain can match the agony of its hunger, and so it shrugs off all attacks, spreading its rot and disease across the battlefield like doom. The Devourer can often be found in the woods waiting for his prey to slip up and to land an easy hook. If successful, the Devourer will swell with a mix of pride and nervousness (afraid he might screw something up) and will begin to let off a putrid odor that is a mix of decaying flesh, flatulence, body odor, and a hint of cinnamon. He will generally follow up by nibbling on his enemy briefly as well.

When Devourer is slain he farts, signaling his passing in battle.

You may be surprised to learn that Devourer, like his friend Jeraziah, is also a Christian hero. Although you would not believe it considering he eats his victims' bodies. As evidence of this I will point out that one of his catch phrases is actually the quoting of scripture - Genesis 2:23 - "...bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh." Devourer quotes this phrase over and over again, not because his voice over options are limited and the phrase is both recognizable and in context with his character, but rather because he is such a devout christian that he thinks of the creation of man non-stop and how amazing it is. Some think that the name Devourer was chosen because it describes his ultimate ability - this is just not so - for his name is actually a clever christian pun. Notice that Devourer and devout have 5 letters in common. Do you think this is coincidence? No. It is divine intervention.
