Diablo II turns 10 years old today!

#1 Posted by Matthew (1911 posts) -

10 glorious years ago, this little runt upstart studio put out this game called "Diablo II," perhaps some of you old-timers may have heard of it.  I guess you do a bunch of clicking and try to find a bunch of loot or some do-wakka-do like that.  It looks like it was praised back in the day for having an addiction quality equal to that of coke or something...  And people played on this Battle.net deal where you play with people who aren't even in the same room with you over this 'webzone' idea.  Sounds strangely like the future to me.

Cheers Blizzard.  Eagerly we await the next installment of a franchise sure to keep us in our basements longer than need be!

Happy birthday to the best game ever.

Man I hope that DIII comes out next year. It would be cool if there was some world event today. It has aged incredibly well, even without the expansion. I'm gonna play this now. This game took about 4 years from me, what's one more day.

Yaye, Happy Birthday DII! Maybe I will play you today.

Damn, I should go play it in honor of this day.

Ehhh, maybe not. I'll just sit here and remember it for a while. I would play it if I knew where the disc was.

If you have the cases but lost the discs like me, you can use the Cd-Keys to download the game on b.net.

Oh wow, that's pretty awesome. I do have my CD Key but no box. I lose all my boxes super fast for some reason.

hmmm. Maybe I'll get on my old account and slay some demons for a while.

@JJWeatherman: Cool, I'm not sure if your old account is going to be there. I think you have to log in every three months.

@JJWeatherman: yea, I'm reliefmd, but I'm not going to be on for a couple more hours at least.  Nonladder, nonhardcore.  Go ahead and add me though, I'll see when I can get on.

@JJWeatherman: It's not much of an account but I'm on US West. It's Trition_ez, tell me when you get on.

Hey guys, need advice.  I wanna buy this game and play it on my new pc(1st pc game ever...no shit), but at the Blizzard site it says Windows Xp or Vista.  Will it run on my Windows 7?
If so, should I buy the retail set or just download it? Thanks for any tips in advance.

I can't get Diablo 2 to run on my Vista laptop for shit. My PC crashes everytime I try to run it. But at least every modern PC game works!

@pweidman: As far as OS's go, I don't have 7, but I know it runs fine on XP and Vista.  And I would recommend buying the hardcopies...but thats just me.

I have Windows 7 and it's a pain to run. It does work though, I played it for quite a while on Windows 7 before. I'm currently trying to get it to work properly again though.  :(

edit:
Running in windowed mode seems to work.

Damn, I guess my account WAS deleted after 90 days. Well that makes this a whole lot less interesting. Oh well, I'll play for a while.

Maybe now they will drop price? $40 for a decade old game is Far Beyond stupid

#25 Edited by pweidman (2299 posts) -

Thanks for the feedback fellas.  My pc meets all specs easily so I'm gonna order the game.  I've been curious for a while and I finally have a decent computer so time to try it.:)

EDIT:
@Zidd:  It's $19.99 on Blizzard's site fyi.

The game is still amazing. Holy shit at those bots, I'm glad they weren't there when I was playing.
#27 Edited by SolemnOaf (535 posts) -

The main problem I have with running in Windows 7 is that my mouse wheel and button are unrecognized, as well as the 'back' IE button.  Still a great game though, was just playing this morning.  I tried to get into Titan Quest too, am still playing that but it just didn't seem to get its hooks in me the way Diablo does.  Can't wait for III, easily the one game I would choose to play right now over any other.

edit: had the thought that I was probably running a version for XP, 1.12a, so I'm downloading 1.13c, hopefully it solves that.

Oh man that brings me back.

I think it's safe to say that D2 was the first game I ever truly put waaaay too much time into it.

God it was so worth it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

i'd try the latest video drivers just to rule that out, otherwise in the properties of the shortcut there should be a compatibility tab, try running it as XP
