Diablo III Interface Screenshots Surface

Some new screenshots of Diablo III appeared along with the latest Blizzcast. They're notable for being the first shots to actually include some of the interface elements from the upcoming game. While the inventory and character doll look simple enough, the skill tree borrows heavily from World of Warcraft (which is proper, since it in turn borrowed from D2). I also can't help but notice that the menus take up a lot of space with both windows popped and that the inventory loot bags look like they are split between weapons, potions and I'll assume treasure. Blizzard is notorious for tweaking their games heavily before release so I'd take these as prototypes, but it's still cool to see that progress is being made on the game and I can look forward to losing another couple years of my life to a Blizzard game relatively soon.

Who whoa whoa, way too much color. Needs more brown and grey

Yeah totally, way too fruity colorful for my grey and dungy tastes. =P

Those talent trees look exactly like those in World of Warcraft.

Do you think that's a warriror, a paladin or a druid? Oh wait, that isn't Wow, sorry

Looks awesome to me. The WoW interface is really well made, so this totally isn't a bad thing.

I remember talking on forums about Diablo III and when it would come out back when I was in 7th grade... Now I'm in College O_O. I've wasted years of my life waiting for this game.

This looks like a bad thing for me at least... I played a lot of WoW - probably too much - but eventually kicked the stuff.

I dip into other MMO's here and there and they just made/make me go back to WoW, they get discarded pretty quickly.  I can understand carrying over the lessons Blizzard have learned from previous games, but if this game is tooled like WoW and looks a little bit like it too, I might just have to pass... Having played PC games for two decades (and even re-installed D2 when this was announced) it'll be hard to pass over this game, but the more I see of it, the more I see the hidden danger of WoW relapse on the horizon...

Damnit I seriously can't wait for this game. It aches me that it feels so far away.

Thats it, I'm starting a petition to try and get them to make all the menus solid black.

#17 Posted by Doogie2K (216 posts) -

Well, it looks like the Diablo II interface, except nicer.  Sounds good to me.  And while there's not much room with everything up, there was none at all with everything up in D2, so Blizz is at least taking advantage of the increased screen real estate from 800x600.

So now what are the fanboys going to complain about?  The fact that you have tabs to keep your shit organized makes it too easy or something?

The colours seem fine. Much tamer than WoW.

I like it then they can use darkness for effect. LOVE IT the Best normal interface since titan quest!

The people that say there is too much color are stupid.

#21 Posted by trav3ler (168 posts) -

Interface looks god, although I'm kind of hoping theyll allow interface mods like they do in WoW.  I can think of a couple tweaks I'd like to make on it to make things easier to keep track of (CTMod style stuff, nothing major).

I think I read on Kotaku that the bags are based on the size of items they hold. So it's not really potions treasure etc. It's more like Big items, Med, Small. And that it's all how many slots do I have on this bag compared to this one *in order to carry more stuff* instead of playing tetris a la D2. But whatever. I would play this game anyway.

Looks good to me. I'm dying to get my hands on the final product!

God that looks good. Smooth and elegant. To anyone who complains that it looks to much like WoW, it is actually very reminiscent of Diablo II in my opinion. After all, Diablo II came out before WoW.

#33 Edited by Vivek (517 posts) -

Gonna whip out Diablo II again this summer. The screens look great, Blizzards not gonna release a shit game. And the colour levels are FINE! stop complaining over nothing.

That's exactly what I was thinking, it looks like improved version of Diablo 2.

I think when this game finally comes out I'm going to have to set aside a few days...

#36 Posted by JoshS (416 posts) -

Everyone who has posted a comment about how people are 'idiots' because they complain about the color need to re-read. The people who said anything of the sort said it in a very obviously sarcastic manner. Nobody here is complaining, so stop calling those imaginary people idiots. Thank you.

cool I guess

I'm really liking how Diablo III is turning out visually. Everything is shaping up really well, and even though those windows are kind of bulky, they're also pretty damn good looking.

Very stylish stuff. I wouldn't mind if they kept this exact interface into launch.

And for those of you who havent listened to the blizzcast and noticed the orb where mana used to be for the Barbarian you will be seeing the new Fury system.  It is similar to the Rage system used for warriors in wow (a much better system than tacking on mana for a fighting class imo).  The background fills up and each time it does so one of the three orbs lights up for better visualization of how much fury you have.  As a Barbarian guy I am psyched to have the fury system in place.

Looks fine. Nothing mind-blowing. It will be nice for me to play a Blizzard game again.

I just bought a massive powered PC for this game. It better be good!

#42 Posted by CitizenKane (10508 posts) -

Looks great.  I can't wait for this game.

Good stuff, beefed my hype meter. Can't wait for this game!

I liked Nox better than Diablo but i'm not sure if that's a valid thing to compare it to.

#46 Posted by bjorno (1433 posts) -

I got excited as soon as I saw an armor slot for PAULDRONS.

Looking forward to it as long as I don't need to scrap my current computer just to play it

#49 Posted by MasonL87 (107 posts) -

Everyone saying that the colors are bad needs to STFU! All games nowadays are brown and grey-a-thons with barely any color in them besides those shades, I prefer Diablo III be colorful.

aaah...what the hell, I got tired of using my left hand in games anyways. Let the point clicking begin.
