    Background

The Digger Launcher made it's debut in Gears of War 3. It is a grenade launcher type weapon that shoots Piranha-like creatures called "Diggers" into the air that then burrow into the ground, making a straight line from where it has been shot and then pop out of the ground and explode. It makes a loud noise when travelling and its line of digging is also clearly visible as it makes a small, tunnel like dirt path which appears on the surface as it moves underground. It is seen to be used commonly by Savage Boomers in the Gears of War 3 campaign. It features in multiplayer and was also present in the Gears of War 3 beta.

    Gameplay

When using the Digger Launcher aiming it will display a trajectory path similar to the grenades featured in Gears of War. What makes it unique is it's ability of travelling under cover. Once the Digger has been fired and is travelling underground, it will pop up and explode upon detection of a nearby enemy. This makes it particularly dangerous in close encounters as careless use of it can result in accidental death. If it does not detect an enemy it will continue on travelling until it hits an impasse or after a certain amount of time has passed. Like most weapons in Gears of War it can be actively reloaded. It is most similar to a Bolo Grenade as a result of it's explosive property and potential to kill multiple enemies. The weapon can also cause a unique instant kill if it is fired directly into your opponent, the Digger will literally dig into the enemies chest and then explode. Despite it's instant kill property not every hit with the Digger is a guaranteed kill, unless of course the player manages to score a direct hit. Depending on your opponents from the explosion they may only receive minor health damage. In standard Team Deathmatch games of multiplayer it is a pick-up weapon rather than a starting one.
