NISA has announced that Disgaea D2, the first direct sequel to one of the Disgaea games (think of it as Disgaea's version of Final Fantasy X-2), will be localized sometime this fall. I'm pretty stoked about this and wanted to drop a line out there to other NISA fans that it's coming to America and Europe.

So, in the spirit of drumming up some discussion, what's been your favorite iteration of the Disgaea series to date? As fond as I am of Disgaea 2 since it was my entry into the series, I've gotta say that the refinements and characters in Disgaea 4 are probably my favorites.

Nice. I guess I should try and finish the first game sometime then, huh?

Always been a fan of Disgaea's brand of crazy. I felt like Disgaea 4 was my favourite of the two I played (1 & 4). Desco and Fuka are just too good.

I should get back to Disgaea 4...

Out of the main Disgaea series, it would probably be either 2 or 4. If we include the spin-off games that are loosely connected to the Disgaea series, then Makai Kingdom all the way.

@smtdante89: I've never played Makai Kingdom, but I did play quite a bit of Phantom Brave. I know it's barely related, but there's not enough NISA love out there in my opinion. Anyways, dug the heck out of Phantom Brave, though I didn't like the characters as much as in Disgaea or ZHP. ZHP was just flat out insane.

@sparky_buzzsaw: Yeah, Phantom Brave had (out of the NISA games I've played) one of the best stories in their games. I felt MK refined the gameplay of Phantom Brave more and I spent an awful lot of time in that one, and was the closest I've come to beating everything in the post-game of any NISA title. Finally moved on once it came to fighting the final boss in that game and never went back to try and finish it, but it was a fun ride while it lasted.

More Disgaea grinding madness for my PS3! Yay!

I only recently played Hour of Darkness, it was pretty damn cool, but I kind of burned out a bit. Do you guys think going through the line and playing 2-3-4 is better than just going for 4 the next time I have the urge?

It's mostly a question if any of the games are bad or lesser than the other ones.

@tobbrobb: The improvements made in each game are fairly incremental, but the stories feature different casts of characters. It really depends on how much you enjoyed the story of the first. There's no real harm in just skipping ahead to the fourth game (in fact, that's where I recommend most people start), and if you got burned out on the first, that might be your best bet. Personally? I say play through them all and just concentrate on doing the story missions while saving the massive post-game content for the fourth one If the games are cheap enough to warrant that approach.

@sparky_buzzsaw: That sounds like the best idea, even though it goes against my instincts to leave sidestuff alone ^^. But I will leave this series alone for a while, the urge will kick back on in a month or so.

This, plus the other two games that N.I.S. announced, are going to keep my PS3 hooked up to my T.V. well into next year.

Original Disgaea is the best Disgaea.

Get hyped! Can't wait to play another game with Laharl, Flonne, and Etna. None of the other characters come close.

About time they localized this!
