I had a couple friends tell me this game was pretty amazing but with all the games coming out and only a limited amount of money coming in, I don't know if I should bite the bullet on this game and just pass on other games for awhile. If only games were less than $60......

#2 Posted by Bell_End (1208 posts) -

why not watch the quicklook.

if it looks like something you would enjoy playing then yeah buy it. $60 is not a lot to spend on a great game.

if though you fell its not a game you would enjoy then do not buy it as it would be a waste of that $60.

I think so. Or you could wait and get it cheaper. Plenty of quality out there if you have a little patience.

I'm loving it. Ghosting fools is awesome.

I will say I was a little hesitant when I first started playing, but then I actually got into the missions and I'm really starting to get into it. I'm playing it through this time around with a lot of killing of the peoples, because that's just much easier for me (which is incredibly fun, enemies gib spectacularly in this game). I will say if you're feeling hesitant why not wait it out and get it on sale or used or whatever? There's plenty of other stuff that you could be excited about so why not go after those games first?

Bought it yesterday but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I will let you know later today.

#8 Posted by Phatmac (5725 posts) -

From what I've seen sure looks like it.

#9 Posted by stryker1121 (1404 posts) -

@Bourbon_Warrior: Too short if you rush thru it and treat it like an action game, as is my understanding. There's tons of side content for those who want to explore during the assassination missions, according to all I've read.

Yeah, about how long is the game? thats probably one of my main concerns with the game

#12 Posted by bchampnd (108 posts) -

The game looks great and the reviews have been positive so if you plan on playing it immediately then by all means go for it. But if it's not something you think you're going to play this week, I'd say wait until you're ready to dive into it. Why pay $60 today to add something to your backlog when you can pay $20-$40 in a few weeks or months when you're actually going to play it?

This has always been my advice to anyone when they talk about pre-ordering a game or buying shortly after launch (unless there is some decent promotion being offered). I've only recently started following this advice myself.

This game wasn't on my radar until a few days, when I got really fucking hyped for no particular reason all of a sudden.

#14 Posted by project343 (2818 posts) -

@Bell_End: @TheDoorman: It varies greatly based on playstyle. If you play it as a shooter, less than 10 hours long. If you play it as an obsessive stealth game, I'm hearing it goes on as long as 25 hours.

#15 Posted by Sackmanjones (4688 posts) -

Does length really fucking matter if the game is fantastic? There is a ton of replay value, especially for beating the game without killing a soul. Anyway I have read it's about 12 to 15 hours and I think the game is awesome so buy it because my opinion is right.

Have you finished it already?

@TheDoorman: GMG are still having that 25% off of any digital download so you can get this game for $45.

#17 Posted by Dietomaha (108 posts) -

Dishonored is a really amazing game. I very highly suggest buying it if you are interested and have the means. Being a new, brilliant IP like this, this game really needs to do good. It absolutely deserves to.

#18 Posted by ttocs (763 posts) -

Yes, it is. On one hand, it's an amazing game with collectibles and enough stuff to keep you interested. On the other hand, supporting new IP's will show other devs that it's worth it to take a shot at new stuff instead of just releasing numerical sequels to games.

When your on a limited budget, yes. I only work about 18 hours a week because of college so I only make around $400 dollars a month after taxes, and then take car insurance and phone bills and food out of that and I have very little to spend.

Unless money is super tight (in which case XCOM is an option that will last you many, many hours), then yes. Yes you should buy Dishonored.

#22 Posted by Demoskinos (14770 posts) -
@Sackmanjones Im with you a great 4 hours is a great 4 hours. A miserable 40 hour game is still a miserable experience no matter how much more content there is.
#23 Posted by Dizzyhippos (1413 posts) -

@TheDoorman: took me 11 hours, but I almost always finish under the average playtime. I can only speak to how it is to play stealthy, which is a lot of fun, but if your on the fence wait for the price to drop with black Friday coming soon you will probably be able to get it for like 40 in a few weeks. Its a really good thief/deus ex style game, if you love those get it now if your only interested because you heard it was good wait.

Not really.

It's taken me about 3 hours just to get halfway through the first mission. Exploring is well worth the effort in this game.

Same here! Getting absorbed in the world is way too easy.

I played it stealthy and mostly nonlethal and it took me 23 hours to beat it.

15+ hours of that standing in corners waiting for movement patterns?

No. There's actually little standing around like that. Dishonored's stealth is a lot more about exploration.

#31 Posted by PrivateIronTFU (3874 posts) -

Buy this game.

You can't get through this game in 4 hours if you actually like games like these. Part of the fun is exploration. So, sure. If you're a dipshit who doesn't like to explore, maybe, just maybe, you can get through it in 4 hours. But why would a dipshit who doesn't like games like these buy it in the first place?

#32 Posted by morrelloman (608 posts) -

I just finished this last night and I could totally support a purchase. If you want to stealth the whole game it will take you a long time. There is a lot to explore and there is a decent amount of challenge. You could easily playthru this twice with totally different experiences. I must disclose however that I just rented it, and I'm pretty happy with that decision.

On some level you could be spending that money on other things, like maybe you never played any (or a few) of the thief and deus ex games, so it might be more financially sensible to buy those for $2.50 each rather than grabbing dishonored. Going ahead and purchasing modern warfare 3 for just the single player campaign is a relatively bad value on release day.

Witcher 2 is the only game I've seen that really demanded to be replayed. Seeing the game with a slightly different talent load out is often advertised as a replayability factor, but I have a lot of trouble buying into that. All of the enemies and environment are essentially the same, and you already know all of the puzzle solutions and dialogue.

i finished my game in 17 hours and that's with savoring it as much as i could.

The truth about it's length is that most first person sneakers (such as Thief and Deus Ex) involve a lot of "wait and execute". Dishonored iterates on that formula and increases the pacing by eliminating the "waiting" part. With your powers, you have a plan and you just execute on it without all the waiting. Though it does eliminate some of the suspense you get out of those other games you still feel like a stealthy badass.

So for those concerned about length, you should try this experiment and play through the game not using ANY powers and i'm sure you'll find the length is considerably longer.

I'm really enjoying it so far, I just like teleporting traversing th world, possessing rats and shit.

#36 Posted by Demoskinos (14770 posts) -

No multiplayer. Obviously this makes the game inferior.

#37 Posted by laserbolts (5319 posts) -

I'm about 3 hours in and I'm still on the first mission. It really depends on how you play. If you want to explore every corner of the game you will get a good amount of time out of it. The game rewards you for exploring from what I have seen so far.

this game freezes like all hell on the xbox. fun when i can play it

Rented it, it's definitely worth a buy.

#40 Posted by AlexW00d (6236 posts) -

So far I have done the first 2 main missions and have sank 6 hours into it (consecutively thanks to a well timed day off work), I dunno how many missions it has, but there's a tonne of exploration to be done.

#41 Posted by Gaspatchosoup (43 posts) -

Get it it is a great game. Dont know where you live but if you can go rent it redbox has it.

#42 Posted by Gantrathor (205 posts) -

I rented it from Gamefly and I absolutely love it. Gonna go buy the PC version today. I would recommend buying it, but if you're not sure, try renting it from somewhere.

$60 for a 4-5 hour game, unless you plan on playing it twice (there's a kinda decent reason to) then no I don't think it's worth it.

It's only a four hour game if the person playing it is dumb as hell.

Indeed. I spent 5 hours on the first mission alone just trying to explore all the options in the level. Its almost comparable to hitman in the way there are a ton of contextual things in the environment that you can use to setup kills.

This game is in my top 5 games of this generation. Might even be in my top 3. Absolutely worth checking out at least.

Same, I clocked in over 6-7 hours on the game by the time I got back to the Home Base area.. I'm surprised I haven't seen more people compare it to Hitman, as it constantly reminds me of that, small sand-boxed levels and complete freedom (well a lot of freedom) in how to attack each once..

Definitely worth buying, it's a masterpiece.

Whoever rushed through in a few hours on Easy is an idiot.

Took me about 22 hours and I wasn't rushing or taking too much time. I thought it was a very good length. It's a great game.
