Not that we necessarily needed to remind you of this, but the fall season means lots of big games all coming out at the same two, maybe three month period in the hopes of capturing a sizable hunk of those sweet, sweet holiday season monies. Now that BioShock Infinite has sky-hooked off to February, one can imagine that most publishers (that aren't 2K Games) are breathing a bit of a sigh of relief right now...until, of course, they realize that Halo 4, Assassin's Creed III, Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 6, Far Cry 3, and, of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops II are all still coming out within a ten-week span of each other. And that doesn't even take into account all those Grand Theft Auto V release rumors. Yeesh.

Steampunk stealthin' (otherwise known as Dishonored) is heading to stores this October.

Let's toss two more promising, though perhaps not as immediately brand-recognizable titles onto that heap, as both Square-Enix's assassination sequel Hitman: Absolution (I'll never get used to not calling that an Eidos game) and Bethesda's steampunk stealth action game Dishonored, will be headed to store shelves around that very same time.

Dishonored, which is in development at Arkane Studios, is set for release on October 9. This looks to be the game that could benefit most from Infinite's delay, given that Infinite was originally set for a later October release. Given that this is a new property--and we all know how often new properties tend to struggle when put up against behemoths like Halo and Call of Duty--every little bit helps.

As for Hitman, buried in a press release full of pre-order bonus information for a Sniper Challenge available exclusively at GameStop (there, I mentioned it, okay?) was the helpful note that Absolution will be arriving on store shelves November 20. That puts it squarely at the end of the current fall release calendar, and the closest to "Black Friday" of any of the other games with announced dates thus far. It's also the week after Black Ops II hits shelves, which wouldn't bode well for anybody, really.

If you thought last fall looked expensive, this one's starting to look just as nuts, if not a whole lot nuttier.

Is it just me or is the fourth quarter getting crazier every year?

#7 Posted by DeathbyYeti (742 posts) -

As much of a fan of the Hitman series that I am, this new Hitman seems like the Mass Effect 3 of the series. I will avoid it and all its pre order non sense because it makes me sad

#9 Posted by teh_destroyer (3561 posts) -

Thats a lot of games! *checks wallet* Better start saving some cash now.

It'll look that way until some publishers realize they don't want to compete against a AAA title (most likely CoD) and push their game into Q1 2013.
#11 Posted by Morningstar (2142 posts) -

Dishonered shold be good. Hopefully hitman will be too.

#12 Posted by DeviTiffany (416 posts) -

I'm hoping Dishonored has the same fantastic melee combat Arkane Studies created for Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Seriously no other first person melee game has been as satisfying as Dark Messiah.

#13 Posted by Little_Socrates (5675 posts) -

Okay. ...now let's hope these two games deliver on their promises. These are what I'd call "high-risk titles."

#14 Edited by BonOrbitz (2173 posts) -

Hitman is looking good but I'm curious about Dishonoured and need to see a lot more before I decide to pick it up at launch. Besides the trailer I don't get a sense that there's a lot out there covering the game.

Too many games (and a system launch!) in the fourth quarter this year!

Just when I thought I was saving 60 bucks with bioshock moving…

If you liked that, you must try Zeno Clash. I find that to to the pinnacle of First Person Melee since it's pretty much a brawler.

I have high hopes for Dishonored, from what I've heard on the emergent gameplay of it, and Deus Ex pedigree.

Hitman, I'm hyped just because stealth-action games are so rare in a given year. Both these titles I'd love to see E3 gameplay walkthroughs to ease my fears.

By the way, Alex, the Sniper Challenge is not exclusive to Gamestop. There are DLC outfits that are retailer exclusive, instead.

#18 Posted by Zombie_Shakespeare (132 posts) -

I still hope, perhaps against all reason, that Hitman: Absolution will not be the Splinter Cell: Conviction of the series.

But everything I see about it makes me feel like I am wrong.

#19 Posted by ObsideonDarman (640 posts) -

I sincerely hope that the rumours about GTA V's release date are true. Maybe we'll here something at E3?

I hope so, as well. That would definitely make up for the huge hole BioShock Infinite left when it was pushed back to 2013.

Still more games then time and money this fall.

Don't thank me, I didn't do anything. No really, I did nothing. Just wanted you to know that.

so true! :)

I found it funny that right after BioShock Infinite got delayed, Eidos and especially Bethesda went "oh hey, we can now safely date our games". I hope this gives Dishonored a lot more attention this year. GOTY discussions probably won't be so horribly predictable like last year (Infinite was already a shoe-in for many a GOTY-award).

Tons of potentially awesome games and even a whole new platform with its own unique launch titles this fall/winter ...oh dear ...

#24 Posted by Parsnip (1077 posts) -

Yay Hitman.

#25 Posted by Duxa (158 posts) -

Alex... next time you post an article like this promising dates etc.... i expect to click on it and be greated by bullet point dates. Not a wall of text i have to sift through to find the information. Thanks :)

#26 Posted by Cybexx (1153 posts) -

XCOM should be in there somewhere as well. With the Bioshock Infinite delay XCOM is now my most anticipated Fall game.

#27 Posted by Winternet (8006 posts) -

Either Eidos is super confident on this new game and Hitman has a track record of selling millions (I honestly don't know) or they're burying it deep and Hitman doesn't deserve that.

#28 Posted by Nicky92 (76 posts) -

Too many games. Better really, but only if you have the cash. This is the plan for me anyway, buy a game play it fully then go buy the other. Even if it's not a launch buy, just buy it latter on and hope the price cut has happened.

#29 Posted by Autechresaint (56 posts) -

Anyone else curious as to why, five months out from the release there still hasn't been a single gameplay video of Dishonored?

But then the hilarious Mr. Navarro couldn't inject his own charisma and humor into an otherwise bland and generic article!

#31 Posted by Origina1Penguin (3500 posts) -

I'm going to buy all of the games. All of them.

DMoMM is the finest kicking-dudes-off-of-precipices simulator on the market.

I hope Dishonored is good. Hitman looks amazing already though.

then they'll realize they don't want to compete with the Q1 games of each year and move their games into the spring/summer time hopefully as that's always such a dry spell(usually) for games, well with the exception that diablo 3 is next week :)

#35 Posted by AndrewB (7500 posts) -

Isn't it a bad idea to launch around Black Friday, where people are expecting sales and not full-priced new releases?

Whatever. It's a Hitman game. If it's any good, my money is as good as gone.

#36 Posted by Hot_Karl (3309 posts) -

Looking forward to Dishonored & RE6 & that's kind of it this fall, surprisingly enough. I never played the Assassin's Creed games, didn't care for Borderlands or Far Cry, Halo hasn't been interesting to me in years...yeah I think I'll survive this Fall. I dunno about you guys.

#37 Posted by TheDudeOfGaming (6078 posts) -

Here's hoping Absolution will be a great game, sort of interested in Dishonored.

#38 Edited by l3illyl3ob (278 posts) -

I'm looking forward to Dishonored more than any other game this year. And to Hitman less than any other. In some bizarre twist, Dishonored might be more of a true Hitman game than Absolution is. Absolution looks terrrrrible. I already played SC: Conviction, I didn't like it the first time around and I wont like it the second time now that they're calling it Hitman.

#39 Posted by Krampus (141 posts) -

Last year I was interested in three games out of the abundance of releases but this year I want almost all of them. I'll save up for the three I really want and get the rest later on. I definitely don't have the money to buy all of these on their release dates.

#40 Posted by calumlittle (30 posts) -

Dishonoured?

#41 Posted by BoFooQ (666 posts) -

Borderlands 2 is the one I'm waiting for and probably the one I'll preorder. It would be great if GTA came out before christmas too, that way I could con someone else into getting it for me.

Noone said he cant add his thoughts and humor below the bullet points. I do value his opinion, but sometimes (in this case for example) all I want to see is numbers in xx/xx/xxxx format :)

#43 Posted by nick_verissimo (1380 posts) -

Well, since Bioshock is off the table, then I might pick up Dishonoured. The general aesthetic is cool enough that I'd be into giving that a look.

#44 Edited by Viking_Funeral (1737 posts) -

Am I bad person 'cause I can't tell that it's an Alex article until everyone points out that it's an Alex article in the comments? Because, clearly, I'm missing something by not knowing this valuable piece of information. Thanks everyone for your hard work.

#45 Posted by Suits (239 posts) -

Nuttier than last year? No.

#46 Posted by procrasturbate (277 posts) -

can't wait for Hitman. can't afford games right now...

#47 Posted by PoisonJam7 (325 posts) -

Good grief, it's November 2011 all over again.

That's good news about Dishonored though. I honestly didn't think it was going to come out until 2013. Now, when are we supposed to have time to play all these games? Most of us will still be firmly entrenched in Diablo 3 at that time!

#48 Posted by SgtSphynx (1269 posts) -

I'm looking forward to Dishonored mainly due to the fact that I haven't heard shit about Thief 4 for quite some time. Maybe now that they'll be done with Hitman (another game I'm looking forward to) they'll let some info be known about Thi4f

Screw Black Ops 2! Its just going to be the same gameplay agian anyway. I'll play COD4 if I want that.

Can't wait for Hitman, that game looks sweet!

#50 Posted by probablytuna (3547 posts) -

Playing Dishonored instead of Bioshock Infinite in October, I think I'm ok with this.
