We're Getting More Story for Dishonored With DLC

The first screen shot from Dunwall City Trials, the first of three add-ons for Dishonored.

Look, I love XCOM as much as everybody else, but folks seem to have forgotten about Dishonored. You should play Dishonored, since I’ll be playing the downloadable content coming for it in 2013.

There are three add-ons coming for Dishonored in the months ahead. First up? December's Dunwall City Trials, a $4.99 add-on promising to push the players who've mastered Dishonored’s skills, and test their mettle. There are new achievements and the introduction of leaderboards, all set against players in ten different locations that include arenas with waves of enemies and time trials.

The way more exciting add-ons aren’t coming until next year, since they involve more stories in the Dishonored universe. The Whalers is scheduled for next spring, and involves new environments in Dunwall, in addition to new weapons, powers, and gadgets. The Whalers are a set of supernatural assassins, and I’m looking forward to possessing and killing them.

Details on the story-driven third add-on are being kept under wraps until sometime next year, though.

Unlike the downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, all of these add-ons will be released simultaneously across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Thank goodness! As someone who has yet to play this, nice to know that there's even more content for what is (apparently) an amazing game.

Finished my first playthrough last night. I'm down for more content.

#4 Posted by machinerebel (42 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I haven't played either, but it's great that Arkane is going to support Dishonored post-launch.

#5 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (4929 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I need this now!

#6 Posted by jper415 (13 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I also finished my first playthrough last night. I hope in one of these packs they include a "new game plus" mode.

I realize this would mess with the runes you receive as mission rewards, but that seems like something they could easily swap out with coins, etc.

I would just love to go back to the beginning and really dig in with a fully maxed out Corvo!

Really happy about this, I am looking forward to playing more Dishonored

No thanks.

The overall narrative in the main game did not leave me with confidence of this team's skill in that particular area.

And simple challenges by themselves aren't interesting enough for me (with the limited number of enemy types in the main game again) gameplay wise either.

Yeah it seems a little strange, 2 different games, so I'm not sure what it has to do with the dlc.

Yeah, but its 2 different studios isn't it? Idk just doesn't seem relevant to me.

This is good DLC, at least from the standpoint of Dishonored being a complete, satisfying experience. I'd happily explore more of that games mechanics and level-design, although the finished product was totally self sufficient.

Same publisher, however Dishonored isn't a big enough thing for microsoft to pay for exclusivity. Also, it's not Bethesda game studios so they aren't unable to figure out how to make something work on the PS3.

Looking forward to this. More story/campaign content is the only way to fulfill the promise of DLC. Remember before Horse Armor, when expansion packs were a thing? That was pretty cool.

Additionally, for first/fast release DLC, the action arena sounds fine. Hope the new story missions have some meat on them though.

Zenimax and Zenimax. The weirdness with DLC in Skyrim continues to be at the publisher level, which is the same publisher handling Dishonored. It's completely relevant.

I had fun, but I'm not buying DLC for this.

Same experience. Game was great fun, story was honestly just connective tissue. I will happily play more though.

Story, because that's what made Dishonored great...........

#24 Posted by DelroyLindo (382 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

First game in quite a while that i played through 3 times in a row

#25 Posted by BlueWolverine (77 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I enjoyed Dishonored a lot, but I'm not sure people are still going to have Dishonored by 2013. They should release the story-driven DLC when people are actually playing it.

#26 Posted by MSUSteve (60 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I appreciate Patrick's fifth grade book report on the upcoming Dishonored DLC.

#27 Posted by MaxOpower (118 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

First game in a loooooong time to actually make me want to buy DLC.

#28 Posted by MrHammeh (196 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I would love to see a texture pack for the PC.......... =\

#29 Posted by Oldirtybearon (3065 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

the world of Dishonored is fascinating, Corvo and the Loyalists? Not so much.

That said if the story DLC leads us down under Dunwall to the unearthed ancient city? That would be pretty damn cool.

Sold....nuff sed

#31 Posted by SomeDeliCook (1657 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

Skipping the challenge stuff and looking forward to the Whaler story DLC

#32 Posted by Ghost_Cat (1018 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

That is a bit long off for DLC. I think many people will forget about it by then.

#33 Posted by ThePantheon (641 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

Noone has forgotten about Dishonored. It's Game Of The Year already, bros.

#34 Posted by SSully (3792 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

I never understood the idea of challenge rooms being fun for DLC.

#35 Posted by jeffrud (178 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

@MSUSteve: How do you really feel?

#36 Posted by Cybexx (900 posts) - 6 months, 23 days ago

Just wrapped up my first play-through tonight. I've managed to balance my time between XCOM and Dishonored. They are both sitting at 14hrs on my Steam list. I really enjoyed my time with Dishonored, I did a low chaos playthough and I want to try going through again to do a high chaos one since I didn't kill any of the targets and barely used any of the cool-looking lethal weapons/gadgets. I agree with Patrick that the ending is kind of a letdown, not terrible just kind of flat.

Not sure if I'll grab this first DLC pack but I'm up for more Story DLC. Best case scenario it would be great to have a self-contained story along the lines of Minerva's Den.

#37 Posted by BBQBram (1974 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

More missions? Sign me up. I really love this kinda game.

#38 Posted by dudeglove (6241 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

Dishonored was kind of empty in places. I fear as though I cheated the final mission out of its fun by walking up a giant fucking cable that basically links the entire level from start to finish.

#39 Posted by SamuraiSeppuku (26 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

@johnLongview: It is an amazing game and quite addicting. I'm on my second playthrough on hard difficulty and its amazing how I've discovered completely different paths to reach my objectives. A definite must buy.

#40 Edited by SpartanHoplite (376 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

I hope the other dlc is out in summer & not in the end of 2013.

#41 Posted by GeneralBondius (3 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

Im dying to play this game.. and XCOM. Good games for this years end!!!

#42 Posted by Raven10 (1164 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago

@MrHammeh: If you have an Nvidia GPU I hear that turning on MSAA in the Inspector with a specific profile makes the game look way better. FXAA and MLAA both blur the image, so switching to MSAA should fix that problem to an extent. Make sure to turn off whatever AA the game is using. Also set LOD Bias to -1 in the inspector. If you've done that already then I guess there are some post-effects apps that can improve texture clarity further. I think most of the blur will be fixed by turning off post-process AA and setting the LOD Bias to -1. You can maybe do something similar with a Radeon card but I'm not sure.

So glad we are getting DLC for this, the game is amazing.

#45 Posted by PhantomGardener (391 posts) - 6 months, 20 days ago

I have not forgotten about Dishonored at all. In fact, it's my favorite game of the year (I don't see that changing in the last couple of months)

I could care less about the challenge DLC, but I am really excited for some story DLC.

#46 Posted by TheWesman (378 posts) - 6 months, 20 days ago

But what about the mechanics? I need to hear more about mechanics and less about entertainment value and fun.

#47 Posted by Lind_L_Taylor (3882 posts) - 6 months, 19 days ago

Dishonored & XCOM will be on my Xmas list this year.

#48 Posted by themaskedproducer (3 posts) - 6 months, 17 days ago

I like the idea of DLC, but it should be free as the content of the game is very short

#49 Posted by metalemily (2 posts) - 6 months, 15 days ago

I found the setting far more interesting than the story so ill be interested to see what else they do with the world they've created.
