Overview

Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a sidescrolling platformer for the Nintendo 3DS, developed by DreamRift in collaboration with Junction Point. It is the first third party game to be confirmed for simultaneous day-1 retail and download availability on Nintendo's 3DS eShop.

As revealed in Nintendo Power magazine, Power of Illusion is not merely a game in Disney's Epic Mickey series, but also a follow-up to the 1990 Sega Genesis title Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. The game's take on the paint-mechanic of the original Wii game utilizes the 3DS touch screen to let players use the stylus to trace certain objects into existence using paint, or erase them with thinner. Accuracy plays a big role. For example, a perfectly drawn cannon will damage only enemies, but if the player messes up, the cannon is a danger to everything and everyone.

Each stage is based on various Disney properties such as Tangled, or Sleeping Beauty. Each level is presented with hand-drawn graphics and scrolling backgrounds.

Mickey has to save various Disney characters from these stages. Once these characters are saved, they hang out in the games hub world called the fortress. When visiting the fortress, Mickey can interact with the characters he has saved in order to take on quests, purchase items, or spend in game currency to renovate the rooms they are in. The Witch, Mizrabel, is the main villain in game. Due to her appearance, she is commonly confused with Maleficent, the witch from Sleeping Beauty.
