DJ Hero 2: If It Locks Up, Ditch A Friend

Hey there, by now you may have seen our DJ Hero 2 Quick Look, where Brad and I "eff it up old-school" on a turntable and a microphone. That was our first experience with the final retail version of the game, and it locked up like three times while we were playing it, usually right at the end of the song.

It sounds like this was already corrected on the PlayStation 3, but over on the Xbox 360, if you're experiencing lockups at the end of every single song, it's probably because your friends list is full. Apparently there's some sort of issue related to the way the game pulls scores from your friends list and displays them in-game, and if you've got a full list, the whole game explodes! Cool, right?

Anyway, G4 bugged Activision about it and heard that a patch for the 360 version should be available by the end of the week. Until then, if you're looking to get busy on the decks and stuff, you need to either play offline or cut someone from your friends list. Consider yourself warned!

Good thing I have no friends

#3 Posted by SteamPunkJin (1286 posts) -

I had lock up issues with the first DJ Hero if I played a setlist that was too long - haven't had any trouble in DJH2 yet, once on the main screen it froze but also could have been my console as the Menu button didn't work.

Not going to be an issue for me.  No friends, and I don't play DJ Hero.

I do however, drink a lot.

When I saw your tweet about this I thought it was absurd. Such an odd bug.

Wow that's stupid.

how the hell is something like this not caught by the QA team? Such a simple sounding bug to find in my opinion

#11 Posted by Kraznor (1578 posts) -

Or not have many friends. Not an issue for me. The lineup of songs, on the other hand, is grossing me out.

Good thing I don't have any friends or DJ Hero 2. Yes... Hornberger!

To be fair, probably because most people don't have 100 friends? QA probably doesn't think to test for it, because who has 100 friends?

The gaming press. That's who.

Yes. Totally awesome feature. More games should crash if random conditions outside of the game itself are met.

It's like a surprise party, only instead of a party it's the DJ Hero 2 apocalypse.

Covering my lack of friends, and that this game adds absolutly nothing for me to correct that  sad situatiion, I think the whole issue is moot.

If I ever change my mind, my cat can sing pretty......she tries!

Don't make excuses; it's still pretty pathetic no one found this during development, and that it happens in the first place.

Actually, most people I've played with have 100 friends, due to real life friends, tournaments, clans, and the like.  I have just over 80 at the moment, so it's not a totally unheard of thing to have 100 friends.
#19 Posted by 234r2we232 (3181 posts) -

It's good if you can get this far. But do the controllers actually work this time?

#20 Posted by Megasoum (354 posts) -

I REALLY doubt that QA missed that. I work in QA (not for Activision) and this is one of the first thing we test when we get a new game (btw entering 70-75 friend codes on a Wii is not fun lol).

This looks more like a big Microsoft fail. I really can't understand how MS Cert missed that...

Not unheard of, but really rare. I mean, out of the 40 million people who have a 360, how many do you think have full friends lists? I'd say... ten thousand?

Oh man... Every game got serious bugs nowdays...

#26 Posted by MisterMouse (3550 posts) -

that is a weird bug

#27 Posted by SuperJoe (874 posts) -

It's always sad when relationships fall apart.  DJ Hero 2 ruins friendships.

#28 Posted by CookieMonster (2416 posts) -

yo we heard you like bugs so we put some bugs in yo bugs

#29 Posted by riffingt0n (157 posts) -

And one I remove from my friends list will be... DJ HERO 2!

j/k, I don't have that many friends.  I actually think the game looks pretty good when it's got moving pictures and stuff.  Not my cup o' tea necessarily, but if I was somewhere and this was there, I'd be interested in getting my hands on it.

#30 Posted by PLWolf (923 posts) -

When I get it, it'll be for the PS3 anyway, but still. That's a crazy bug to have.
So, are we going to get an updated QL?

#31 Posted by JammyMan (21 posts) -

Clearly the makers of DJ hero have no friends...

#32 Posted by LiquidPrince (15918 posts) -

PS3 patches are coming pretty quickly nowadays.

This is a weird ass bug.

#35 Posted by xyzygy (9953 posts) -

It's not like this is a big issue anyway, what with the new update that will increase the friend limit to 1000. And I highly doubt anyone will get that many friends any time soon, unless it's GiantBombing.

As opposed to what on the 360...? I mean the only thing coming out on the 360 is Fable 3. I mean I can't think of anything else I might buy...

Programming is hard.

Pour one out for QA. They don't get much love, but they are key to the entire operation.

#40 Posted by Conformunist (105 posts) -

Normally, I'd say something snarky and lame about this bug but I kinda feel for DJH2.

Triple digits fuck me up too.

#41 Posted by SleepyDoughnut (1208 posts) -

Good to see it won't affect the majority of the players, and it will soon be a non-issue. Still unfortunate though.

#42 Posted by Terjay (813 posts) -

Too bad. Good thing they're fixing it quickly.

#43 Posted by JJWeatherman (14558 posts) -

#44 Posted by c_rakestraw (844 posts) -

Lol. Guess I wasn't around when people found out it wasn't true... I was kinda of thinking that 1000 was a lot.

I only have 20-something on mine and it's enough. If you have 100 people on the friends list, you should be doing some deleting anyway.
#48 Posted by phoenixflames (58 posts) -

So who is the poor smuck that got deleted from Jeff's account?

#49 Posted by Mystyr_E (1190 posts) -

they're not expanding the friends list? way to listen to your audience, Microsoft

#50 Posted by TiE23 (298 posts) -

Hah. Having just taken a break from some programming homework it's probably from a simple out-of-bounds issue with an array. One typo probably left a bug that can only display 99 friends instead of 100. Some zero-count issue, probably.
