Was thinking of picking this up sometime, possibly on a sale and was just curious how it was? Is it a solid port of the game or are there any strange issues with it? Thanks for the response duders!

I'm getting a pretty insane amount of screen-tearing at max settings, but otherwise it seems great.

As I posted in the Impressions thread, haven't had any problems at all yet, but I'm only a few missions in. It has pretty forgiving hardware requirements, as people have been saying. Glad I waited, personally.

#4 Posted by JoeyRavn (4391 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I've only tinkered a bit with the game, but it runs flawlessly on my PC (i5 2500K @4.3 GHz, GTX 570 with a slight OC, 8GB RAM, W8 Pro): constant 60 FPS with everything maxed, including HD textures and such. There are no high-end PC settings (DX11, SSAO, tessellation, etc.), but it has remappable gamepad buttons, which is a blessing. I couldn't stop pressing X instead of Y to do the normal sword attack.

Not to sound like an asshole or anything, but why not turn VSync on?

#5 Posted by granderojo (1575 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

For whatever reason I couldn't install it from Steam until just now. I don't know what the issue was but when I hit install it would say it wasn't available. I wonder if that had to do with a lot of people downloading it all at once or what.

#6 Posted by Cloudenvy (5725 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

My experience with it so far has been ovewhelmingly positive. Runs great, looks great, plays great.

#7 Posted by Shaunage (438 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

@JoeyRavn: I'm getting that serious tearing WITH Vsync on.

Mind sharing your specs? Heard this game doesn't require a rig as nearly up to date to run

#9 Posted by ElectricBoogaloo (317 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Screen tearing is crazy bad in pre-rendered cutscenes but non-existent everywhere else so I'm not too bothered.

#10 Posted by Sackmanjones (4163 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I can live with that weird screen tearing issue. Obviously Id rather it not be there but hey if that's the biggest complaint I am a happy camper

i5, 8GB RAM, GTX260. The speed and smoothness of the game is otherwise perfectly fine maxed out. Loving the game itself, 2 missions in. And yes, it's much more prevalent in cutscenes for me too.

#12 Posted by TheKramer89 (395 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

It sucks 'cause Dant's hair is black.

#13 Posted by Shaunage (438 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Then use the Classic Dante costume? My copy has it by default.

#14 Posted by CaLe (2491 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Runs great, looks great, plays great. I'm no DMC expert, but the combat feels like it has more depth than any of the previous games to me.

By saying classic Dante that's still a toss up within the DMC universe isn't it? You got original Dante from the first one, older brooding Dante from two, young in your face douche Dante from three and Dante from 4 which I think is probably more closer to the first game.

#16 Posted by granderojo (1575 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I just beat the first mission. Came back to this thread to say the game runs impeccably outside the screen tearing in the cutscenes but that's to do with it being a console port(ie compression). That said, MAN does it looks great. Fraps says I'm running it at like 180fps right now so those Tom's Hardware tests were right on.

fully maxed, runs perfect, 60fps etc. Looks great

the pre-order costume is Bare Chest Dante from 3.

I'm running the game great at 1080p on a 660ti. Turned everything all the way up, still seems totally smooth.

Oh man. I miss Dark Brooding Dante from DMC2. His costume was so badass too. Pretty much inspired by Neo from the Matrix, but still. DMC2 wasn't very good, but I really liked Dante's acrobatics, looks and flair.

The refresh rate always resets to 25hz but if vsync is on it doesn't seem to affect anything, framerate stays at a consistent 60. The game runs silky smooth.

#21 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6779 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I'm running the game completely maxed at 1080p without going under 60fps. I have a GTX 570 card, Phenom II X6 1090T CPU, and 8 gigs of RAM. I haven't noticed screen tearing, but maybe it's happening? I dunno. Either way, quite happy with the port so far.

#22 Posted by Captain_Felafel (1309 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Considering the game runs around 170-210FPS at max settings at 1080p, I'd say pretty awesome!

#23 Posted by tread311 (169 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Running well, plays well, I even think the story may have potential to be ok. I have no nostalgia for DMC and only ever finished 4 so the new Dante is fine for me.

#24 Posted by TobbRobb (3300 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

It runs and plays well. SSS port, Approved.

Also, I am 100% behind new Dante now. I feel like he got misrepresented by the demo and trailers. The dude grew on me quick.

There's still a few plot things I might want to bitch about. BUT WHY BOTHER! EVERYTHING ELSE IS SO FUCKING AWESOME ALL THE TIME!

#25 Posted by GiroMindTricks (47 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I turn on v-sync through the nvidia control panel and turn it off in game and I've had no screen tearing at all. Running at a constant 60fps on an FX-8120 @3.8Ghz + EVGA SC GTX 660ti

Very good news in this thread

@Shaunage said:

I was referring to the NVIDIA Control Panel option, not the in-game one, sorry. For most games (at least that I've tried), it's better to force it through the GPU than enable it in-game. If you haven't tried it, do it and tell us if it worked.

#28 Posted by zenmastah (503 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Yeah, the ingame vsync is broken so turn it off ingame and enable it via inspector or catalyst or d3doverrider to get rid of the tearing.

Graphics are nothing to call home to mom about, but thats fine i guess. Console draw distance on some textures but nothing horrible like Amalur or Darksiders 2 atleast.

Use of colour and the general artstyle is suberb though, really liking the look of the game.

Yes it works.

@TobbRobb: Yep! Its great! I'm on like 4th run through the game now. =D Can't quit playing!

#31 Posted by Shaunage (438 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks!

Looks great on my end.

#33 Posted by granderojo (1575 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I turned on vsync in Nvidia control panel as well and it cleared up all problems. That said, man this game looks great and plays better. DmC feels like the game that Dante's Inferno should have been and I say that as someone who loved the combat in Dante's Inferno. You should play this game.

#34 Posted by spazmaster666 (1950 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

The in-game vsync worked for me without any issues including cinematics. It didn't work at first, I just had to disable it and re-enable it and it worked just fine. Anyway, game runs silky smooth at 2560x1440 max settings on my GTX 670s (no SLI profile it seems but 1 card is enough to keep it at 60 FPS at all times with only like 50-60% GPUS usage). Dante plays a lot like he did in DMC 4 (with a few differences of course) and that's just fine to me.

@Demoskinos: What? The game has only been out for about a day right? Is it really that short?

#38 Posted by Mister_V (544 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Running it maxed out and it looks and plays great. This is my first DMC game so i can't compare it to other ones but im having a lot of fun. I really like the humor in the game, especially the wig moment at the beginning.

One small gripe though. I'm playing with the 360 controller and noticed the camera sometimes sticks when im trying to pan left and right. It's a minor issue though and it's not stopping me enjoying the game.

#39 Posted by punkxblaze (2412 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

Slick. As. Fuck.

#40 Posted by Demoskinos (8930 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

@Subjugation: I've got the PS3 version. Console versions came out last week.

that camera thing is really annoying me, I assumed it was a game thing, not a PC thing, because it seems the camera wants to use its own angles sometimes, like the old games

Has anyone tried playing this with an older card? I was wondering how a 5770 would fare.

#43 Posted by Mister_V (544 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

@Vod_Crack: It's unreal 3 so it's pretty light on hardware.

#44 Posted by ArbitraryWater (8945 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

The game runs at a solid 30 at high settings for me, and my computer is not the most top of the line thing out there.

#45 Posted by JJOR64 (18113 posts) - 3 months, 23 days ago

I have the In-Game V-Sync on and I'm not seeing any tearing. Have a GTX 580.

Running it maxed out at 1920x1080 with a 6950 and its been running perfectly smooth the whole time. The gameplay feels really good and is just right for somebody like me that doesn't really play these kind of games. Been playing on the hardest difficulty available at the start and have honestly found it pretty easy and have consistently gotten a S rank or higher on every level I've played so hard. I'm guessing it's going to get a lot harder though. Really impressed with this game.

Same here. Playing on Nephilim and it hasn't been too hard. Haven't died yet and I've only used 1 health item so far.

Just from looking at the Tom's Hardware stuff, it would still play better than consoles for sure. Over 60.

Getting this on PC as soon as time permits. Too busy with Ni No Kuni and TERA at the moment.

Works flawlessly on my setup, I just had to force v-sync on CCC. 60fps capped, no screen tearing at all, or slow fps
