There is a new video on gametrailers for DMC.
It seems that when he uses devil trigger mode, his hair turns white. So there you go the complainers got their wish.

#2 Posted by SMTDante89 (2604 posts) -

I don't think the complainers really got their wish since Devil Trigger is temporary.  They won't stop until he has permanent white hair.

White haired emo is still emo.

Does it also make his ugly face not butt ugly anymore?

White or black, that haircut looks stupid no matter what color. I'm not a DMC fan, but that hair...

#7 Edited by GodsMistakeXx (134 posts) -

I thought the complaints consisted more over the new punk angsty look, instead of over the hair color.

I like the new kinda-edgy-but-not-really-but-god-damned-if-he-isn't-trying look.

That trailer was a terrible use of The Glitch Mob's music.

Fucking embarrassing- the trailer for the Captain America movie did a much better job

I think it's pretty funny that people complain about the new character design as if the previous design wasn't just as bad.

it is pretty funny. new dante now was designed with the actual same concepts in mind as old dante was designed originally. the ideas behind the character's personality have stayed exactly the same, it's just the times have changed and made those ideas result in slightly different things
#13 Posted by bellmont42 (323 posts) -

That was a terrible trailer but it looks like some DMC to me.

The lack of white hair was the least of the problems with that game, er, trailer(s) for that game.

I am still not satisfied.

White is right.

#16 Posted by CSXLoser (582 posts) -

already slightly forgiven for music used in the trailer :)

#17 Posted by Icemael (6343 posts) -

No I didn't. The game is still being made by Ninja Theory.

That trailer sucked.

Yeah, so do I. He looks pretty shitty, but I'm pretty sure they were trying to make him look pretty shitty. I guess I understand why people might not like that though.

I don't get it.  Dante has always been the most emo character in the history of (non-JRPG) video games.  I don't get how having black hair makes him any more emo than he already was.

Anyway...I'm gonna throw this out there.  Devil May Cry games have always sucked.  The first one was pretty original for it's time, but it has aged horribly and it is still the best of the 4.
#22 Posted by Zippedbinders (1021 posts) -

I think the only people who could make a truly great Devil May Cry game is Platinum, and they already made Bayonetta. DMC4 proved that Capcom shouldn't be trusted with making one, so they farmed it out to Ninja Theory.

I'm actually all kinds of ok with that. Its not going to be a particularly great DMC game, but I'm stoked to see how good of a Ninja Theory game it will be. I loved Enslaved. I'm also physically incapable of caring less about the redesign, how much he looks like old Dante has zero bearing on the game unless you're a child who can't comprehend how and why things change.

Yeah, I don't mind it either. All these people whinging about it are so crammed full of First World Problems that it's cascading out of their ears.

The gameplay looks like devil may cry. Thats all I could ever ask for with Ninja Theory.

Kind of dissapointed with the direction they're taking with the story. The whole punk, lets fight "the man" bullshit is played out IMO and Marc Ecko's Getting Up did it better from the looks of things

All of the hate at the people who don't like it seems a little odd.  I'm still going to give the game a shot, it might be pretty good, I just think don't like the way he looks.  What about that is so wrong?
#26 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6789 posts) -

I find it funny that people complain more about the few people that still complain about the hair than people actually complain about the hair.

Anyways, the game play looked... ok I guess.  Can't really tell from that video.  I still have hope they will pull through and make the first game I like from them being as DMC is one of my favorite franchises.

Yay hair goes right... everyone is happy now, right... RIGHT...

Wrong. People will keep bitching... he's still Dante.. but, let the fanboy tears fly~! I'll get my boat.

BUT GUYS, IN THE RICH FICTION OF DEVIL MAY CRY HIS HAIR IS ALWAYS THAT COLOUR, GUYS, NOT JUST FOR TRIGGER MODE.

You know this is a videogame site right? People that have actual problems don't waste time on videogame website message boards.
I fucking hate when people say "ooh you have such fist world problems or white people problems." Trust me I hate complainers, even god hates complainers. if you have such liberal guilt, you should do something about it.

Nice generalisation. I'm sure HumanityPlague will be glad to hear that.

I have no real guilt whatsoever (although I probably should, but I'm an only child). In fact, I like living in a first world country and the opportunities it affords me. I was using "First World Problems" as the flippant, sarcastic online brand it has become, rather than any true indication of a person's honest feelings on the rift between the haves and the have-nots.

Man, did you get pink and angry quickly. Dante fanboy, then?

Dante always looked like a bitch but he used to act John Carpenter style crazy so it was okay.

Its more of a complaint that new dante looks like the Head Dev of the game company.

This is kinda how I feel for the most part.

After watching the trailer my main concern for the game is less the art style they've chosen or even the narrative, it's how incredibly tame the action looks at this point. Hopefully it's just a product of the game's current development progress, and I for one was certainly in favour of a more serious and gritty DMC experience, but after years of absolutely crazy shit happening in these games I don't know how interested I am in a deadly serious third person hack 'n slash.

At what point does this become, or cease to be, a Devil May Cry game? Is it the inclusion of Dante or is it the style of action?

I love Devil May Cry so I'm giving Ninja Theory the benefit of the doubt, I just hope they're going somewhere with this reboot.
#38 Posted by imsh_pl (3298 posts) -

I don't like Dante's new look. I think it's not a good choice to change the design of a character we've all known and grown up to love for years.

And after coming to this thread I apparently turn out to be a whiny nostalgic fanboy.

it's only in devil trigger mode

#41 Edited by SlasherMan (1725 posts) -

What I wish for is another proper DMC, not this janky looking pile of mediocrity.
Not that it would matter anyway, all DMCs pale in comparison to Bayonetta IMO, so I'd rather have a sequel to that instead or at least something with the same combat system.

There goes another Japanese franchise that was once actually good.

#44 Posted by TobbRobb (4761 posts) -

None says the first design was good or less "emo" than the new one, but goddamn i'm used to old shitty Dante and there is no freaking reason to change it. The new one isn't an improvement it's a palette swap without reason and I really just want them to leave his emo-ass style alone.

#45 Posted by Xpgamer7 (2385 posts) -

I care less about the character arguments and more about gameplay.

#46 Posted by Beforet (2931 posts) -

What does the word "emo" even mean any more?

#47 Posted by mylifeforAiur (3487 posts) -

If anything, the new feature denotes a severe lack of determination and confidence from the developer. Either go all the way and try to do your own thing, or give in to the fastidious fan-base completely. Otherwise your piecemeal offers will reek of indecisiveness and you'll come off as weak-willed and/or unsympathetic.

#48 Posted by Vegetable_Side_Dish (1730 posts) -

What always gets me is when the new DMC character is called 'emo', as if the old one was...any different.

@Beforet said:

Not how anybody is using it in this thread.

Also, as long as the game stays true to the style of Devil May Cry, I won't have any issues. I kind of wish they would have kept going with Dante from Devil May Cry 4. I liked his older, street-smarter self in that game.
#50 Edited by GoofyGoober (937 posts) -

I couldn't care less for the hair, what I do care about is how this is a devil may cry game, a game series built on fast paced excitement, and the trailer they showed off at E3 was slow boring and actually made me less interested in the game than I already was.
