Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

Game » consists of 8 releases. First released on Nov 22, 1996

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is the final installment in the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy. Like the previous installment, Donkey Kong is not a playable character. In this game, Diddy Kong is replaced by the toddler Kiddy Kong.

I think this is totally an under rated game.

Now maybe nostalgia blinds me a bit here but where is the love for DKC 3? I always hear that the second is better, but personal I disagree, I enjoyed the change in art style, the open over world, and generally most other aspects of this game.

Where do you duders stand in this somewhat random thought?

Yeah I fucking loved the shit out of this game as a kid. Beat everything there was to beat in it over the span of like a year. I think it's the best DKC. There was just something about it. I loved the map!

@xyzygy: Me too, the over world was fantastic looking, I loved the wacky ass music too.

Played all three games from around age 9. Loved DKC 1 and 2, but I couldn't get into 3. Can't really remember why especially because Dixie Kong is my favorite character to use.

@Oscar__Explosion: I actually played #2 last.

I've actually only played the first one, but I played the shit out of it as a kid. I've actually tried going back lately, but I find them too boring to sit down and play.

I played all of them as a kid and replayed them recently. They're all pretty great games. I have trouble ranking them, but don't really feel the need to.

Three is the best DKC, it's too bad it came out so late in the SNES's life, 1996 by then most people had moved on.

I liked the DKC games as a kid. I really liked them. Playing as the baby was sort of dumb. I like Diiddy and Dixie more. I remember DKC3 having sort of an all over the place aesthetic.

It might have just suffered from the Ratchet and Clank syndrome - so many people played so much of the first few that they burned out on it and didn't really want to play the third because they'd subconsciously had their fill of that formula.

Or at least that's how both series went for me. I know that the third DKC game and the PS3 Ratchet games (most of them) are actually good games, but by the time I got around to them, I'd done that song and dance many, many times before.

I did, for the record, beat the third DKC game eventually. And it's a good game. But when it comes down to preference... man, that second game just has a ton of things that I liked better. The music, the levels, the designs, the bosses, that fucking goddamn King Zing Sting.

Actually, I didn't like the King Zing boss. Motherfucker scared the shit out of me as a kid.

I found it really hard caring about any of the others after the first game. Two and three are games I have considered going back and playing, I just remember not really liking them when they came out.

I really liked it back then, but i played it again a few months back and it doesn't hold up as well as dkc 1 and 2. Wich i still play fairly often with my sister. But i still like it.

The second being my absolute favorite, if only for the soundtrack! ( but also because of some sweet level design! )

I think 3 had the best overworld and animal forms and 2 had the best level designs. In particular, the cart levels in 2 were pretty imaginative for a game from 1995.

I think people didn't play it because the N64 released the same month with Mario 64 and whatnot. Made this game pretty much irrelevant back in the days.
