Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
Games that have had television shows based on them.
Air moving with a considerable force from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. Used in games to slow things down, speed them up, or make them hover.
Animal antagonists feature in works where the player character is a human or reasonably humanoid (such as an alien) and the primary villain or an important rival is an animal. They may have some human-like tendencies such as speech or wearing clothes, but ultimately are non-anthropomorphic.
Apes are primates that lack tails. They swing from tree to tree and sometimes fling poo. Not to be confused with monkeys (who have tails).
Asynchronous multiplayer is a term applied to online interactions in video games where players participate in shared activity, but not concurrently. The oldest form of asynchronous multiplayer is turn-based multiplayer gameplay between two or more players that can check in and play their turn when it's convenient. Similar to play-by-mail games and, more electronically, play-by-email or play-by-post forum games.
Videogame bosses, generally enormous ones, that take up the entire background of the screen you fight them on, usually only extending the body parts they attack with (and for some reason, their weak point) into the foreground where the player can interact with them.
Games containing enemy characters throwing barrels.
Not all bosses can handle the player by themselves. Many use waves of lesser enemies to fight for them while they rest, and some even let these minions do all the work.
Potentially deadly in the real world, annoying and funny in the animated world.
Games that can be played with a CGA monitor and graphics card. CGA, Color Graphics Adapter was the first generation of color graphics for the IBM PC.
The Classic NES Series of games were re-released versions of NES games for the GBA. Also known as Famicom Mini and NES Classics in Japan and PAL regions respectively.
Climbing is a common tradition in games, particularly platformers. There is often a particular type of surface that can be climbed, and it has a recognizably different look than other surfaces in the game. Climbing ladders or stairs doesn't count.
Collectibles are items such as coins, rings, gems, packages etc. that can be gathered, usually for some kind of reward, or sometimes to simply beat a level. Often (almost too often) the source of earning achievements and trophies on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The continue is a classic gaming concept, and usually arises when the player "dies" or fails in the game. Usually some loss is tied to a continue, in a form of a "life" or something of other value.
The ultimate pressure feature. Players have to complete the task at hand, be it defeating opponents or cutting the right wire, in the allotted time.
A non-interactive sequence within a game most often used for plot advancement.
The concept of a helpless female character in desperate need of rescuing by the protagonist, in most cases from a villain, or from a form of impending doom.
The main line of distinction between victory or failure in video games, death is the process of a biological being ceasing to be alive.
Famicom Disk System games that were only available via a disk writing service available in many Japanese game stores. As such, they have no official box art and are harder for collectors to find.
A peripheral for the Game Boy Advance that allowed players to scan in cards for extras in various games, or even to play classic NES games.
The twenty-fourth Electronic Entertainment Expo was held June 12-14, 2018 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
An Easter Egg is an intentionally hidden cheat or hidden content in a video game, also known as a "secret".
In the Game Boy version, some enemies can be picked up and tossed (some can even be ridden on).

Game Over originally appeared in pinball machines, and later, arcade machines. When players lose at a game, it is game over.
Video games that are based on comic books, manga and graphic novels.

Sometimes available in the game world or hidden as collectibles or behind challenges. this page both lists the games that are inside other games and the games that host the latter.
