It's $30 right now but I was in the "beta" and now have a full copy of the game, three gift copies to give away, and it seems like Valve is handing them out left and right to everybody. I'm guessing this game is going to be free to play and monetized by microtransactions, so it would make sense to get as many people playing DOTA 2 as possible right away.

The current $30 price tag may just be a device to manufacture value for all the free copies they're giving away.
