What is Shoemaker's Army

Shoemaker's Army is a Steam Group that is for new Dota 2 players looking to play with others from the Giant Bomb Community that are also new. This takes away the stress of playing Public Matches with others and being bashed for being new. Along with new players in this group, there will be experienced players willing to play and teach the newer ones the basics and anything Dota related.

What do you have to do to join

Simple, just visit this link. It's a public group so if you have new friends to the game, have them join as well.

Requirements

You can be as new as possible to join this Group. You can even be the most experienced player there is. If you are an experienced player however, it would be appreciated by other members to play with them and teach them the ropes. Any skill level is welcome here!

For new people looking at this thread: The original thread was just talking about creating the group. I did not want to create an all new thread so I did a full edit of the original.

This group needs more Teachers for the game. We also need an Avatar for the group as well. I am not good at photoshop or being creative, so if someone would volunteer to make one for us, that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as Bedouin. Played a couple games some time ago with a friend, but he didn't do a very good job of explaining what I needed to do or, more importantly, why I was doing it. Count me in.

I'll join, I play a fair bit of dota so I'd be happy to help people get into it. Once you get pass the stress and rage of randoms the beauty can really come out of that game. When you start knowing all the meta concepts it gets so weird, watching Dota internationals at the moment and understanding why these crazy pro's are doing something feels like I've learnt another language. A completely useless one admittedly but it feels kind of cool to be able to understand something that has a community. (I've never been on a sports team it shows)

Having a tutor sounds great to me. Trying to watch loads of videos, watch TI3, read up etc but can't beat playing in game with someone who can help you out

im not some kind of pro, as i was just reminded in a match with some GB fellas as we got stomped.. but i know the basics. and perhaps thats the best person to teach new guys so that theyre not being overloaded with crazy shit like day night cycles

I would love having a group of people to play with who are on my level of " got to the final training section but too scared to play an online match by myself" :D

You should check out the thread made by @mariachimacabre if you want to play with people that wont rage at you. It was made around the time that Brad got hooked on his Dota 2 thing. We (the people who put their names in the thread) played plenty of games together and everyone was always very helpful since we were all starting up. You can just friend the names there. I never ran into anyone that was critical about anyone else during the games games we played. It was all very lax.

@chiablo: the GB chat usually states what kind of matchmaking theyre doing, if its low or low-mid, you can usually jump in without anyone growling.. ive done several matches in the last few days where everyone was lvl 5 or below, the main issue is the level of people actively looking for games has been lacking because of TI3

How experienced are tutors supposed to be? I enjoy helping new people but I still feel new myself sometimes. I have 200 games under my belt and could definitely teach basics and explain most heores to people but I've yet to play every single hero myself.

i think thats a really good idea, i mean i have played for about 80 hours and although im decent im still not that great, so its a good way to learn and teach at the same time, and its also a good way to try new chars, other then ai bashing

Another option is to provide a link to the group page and make it a public group. Risky, but if invites are broken for whatever reason, this might help.
