I have never supported a Kickstarter before ten minutes ago. Go Double Fine!

Double Fine Raises $1 Million for New Adventure Game
Awesome stuff. I hope this works out for them... and judging by how the money is pouring in, I bet it will. This could really help open up the industry's eyes to ways of cutting out the middle man, just like what's happening in the music industry. Money directly from the fans to the developers to help get games made. Awesome stuff.
And Notch just donated five grand. Of course...
Geeze, only 1 hour in and it's already over 80k. It's gone up 20k since I saw it just a few minutes ago.
Holy crap, the money is adding up QUICK. I left the page when it was ~$59k and came back 10 minutes later and it's gone up to $84k already. Everyone who is a fan of Double Fine at all should be pledging at least $15; you're helping them AND you get the game for that money. DO IT.
Gave them $300.
Not only do I love Double Fine as a developer, but this project is just one of the most interesting things I've seen in the industry. A chance to see a game being made, for a community of people to give active feedback during development and an unprecedented level of transparency? Yes please.
Wow, they're already at 90k. Also, I had a question: do those people get their money back, if the game makes money???

First time using this thing, it's not going to charge me if it didn't go through right?
I don't think that will be an issue.
EDIT: To prove my point: they just crossed into six-figures. I'm excited about this whole thing on so many levels.
EDIT #2:
Q: What happens if you go over the goal?
A: The extra money will be put back into the game and documentary. This could result in anything from increased VO and music budgets to additional release platforms for the game.
Squeeeee!

That seems like a moot point, as just paying $15 gets you a copy of the final game. Which is what every single one of these people would have done anyway. Everything after that is essentially donation based with incentives, like fundraising in general.
I love that this is happening. The concept of "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" is in full force here. That $100 with a name in the credits is impossibly tempting.

I know it's a joke in the video BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...Ron Gilbert didn't invent the point and click genre.
I just wanted to point that out.
I always thought Maniac Mansion was the first adventure game that didn't use a text parser, what game used a point-and-click parser before it? I was pretty young back then, but I seem to recall that being pretty revolutionary at the time, that you could just click on the verb you wanted, and you didn't have to type it in or deal with any synonym-related guesswork.
Count me in! Im a big fan of Double Fine ever since Psychonauts and a big Schafer fan long before that.
I love the fellows over at Double Fine, and for them to be working with such a great creator on a new adventure game, I am absolutely in. Giant Bomb and Double Fine forever.
My $15 is down.
I hope everyone else who supports the great folks at Double Fine step up to help them out here. :)

My question is, how many of the $100 or more backers who get their name in the credits are going to try and create themselves a wiki here on GiantBomb...
Frankly, if "producers" are listed for games in the database, then it's all legit. There is nothing special about being a "producer". Hell, they are given out like candy in hollywood and in the radio business. It doesn't necessarily mean you had to do anything and in most cases, you get a producer credit (or associate producer or executive producer or yadda yadda producer) specifically because you contributed to the project, financially.
Of course, if we do that, then I want my Giant Bomb wiki page for helping with Frozen Synapse's strategy game last year, too. :)

Kickstarter is about paying for a product before it is made and if enough people buy it, they're charged for it and you go ahead and produce it. It's not about charity or donations. It's about a maker of things (movies, books, games, art, technology, etc) connecting directly with the people who want to buy their product and selling it to them.
In fact, Kickstarter specifically does not allow charities. So they're not going to give anyone any money back for anything, unless the goal isn't reached. If you paid $15, you paid for a game. If you paid $30, you paid for a game and HD documentary, etc.

I want to wake up tomorrow and see this baby fully funded.
You're not going to have to wait that long. They've been doing a solid thousand bucks a minute since it started and it started late in the evening. Hopefully people keep funding it well beyond the goal point and they undertand that $400k is what's needed, but not the limit to what they could use for the game. Because come morning, they could get another huge rush of people very easily.
