Lore
In Nordic legend within the Elder Scrolls universe, the Dovahkiin are rare people who are born with the body of a mortal and the soul of a dragon. It is said that a dragon named Alduin World-Eater will destroy Nirn unless the last Dragonborn defeats him. This is the played character in Skyrim.
Appearance
Dragonborns can be any gender and any race. Traditionally, the Last Dragonborn is said to be a male Nord with brown hair and a beard, with studded armor, an iron helmet, and other pieces of varying armor. Despite this, the charater's appearance is up to the player of Skyrim. The character can be either gender, and any race in Tamriel.
Powers and Abilities
The Dragonborn's skills can vary, depending on personal choices the player makes. However, the Dragonborn has access to Thu'um regardless. Thu'um is the power of the Voice of dragon language, used as Shouts. Each Shout has its own distinctive effect and words that make it up, and each one is composed of three words. Shouts include Unrelenting Force, Whirlwind Sprint, Bend Will, etc.
Story
The main story of Skyrim follows the Alduin World-Eater vs. Last Dragonborn storyline from the point-of-view of the Last Dragonborn. The game begins with the Dragonborn nearly being executed, along with a few Stormcloak rebels, by the Mede Empire in the town of Helgen. The executions are interrupted when Alduin attacks the town. The player, Dovahkiin, escapes the town and the game ensues. The story of the main game brings the player along to battle dragons, learn Thu'um from the Greybeards, turn the Blades back into dragonslayers, and finally battle Alduin in Sovngarde, the Nord afterlife.
Tyranny of the Sun Story-Arc
In the Dawnguard DLC, the player can join the Dawnguard, a league of vampire hunters who were revived to stop the Volkihar vampire clan from completing their mission, which the Dawnguard did not actually know. Upon doing a mission for the Dawnguard, the player, the Last Dragonborn, meets a vampire woman named Serana, daughter of the Volkihar clan leader, Lord Harkon. After this encounter, the Last Dragonborn can remain with the Dawnguard or go to Castle Volkihar to join Harkon. Over the course of the arc, the Last Dragonborn and Serana end up in a long list of adventures and predicaments, all leading up to getting Auri-El's Bow and defeating Lord Harkon, whether or not the player joined him or not.
