    Overview

Down the World: Mervil's Ambition is a Super Famicom strategy RPG developed and published by ASCII Corporation in 1994. The game features the eponymous Mervil, who survives an attack that wipes out his unit only to find himself travelling through time to escape. The game follows Mervil and his fairy companion as they follow quests and grow stronger. Battles are depicted on isometric grids and require some strategy behind them.

Susumu Matsushita is credited as the creative force behind the art direction and character design. He had worked on the Super Famicom RPG Elfaria prior to Down the World, and designed the cover art for many other games. Down the World is also distinctive for having female vocals on its theme music: a rarity for non-CD 16-bit games.
