I did his Duty mission where you kill the 3 bands of mercenaries, spoke to the Reverent Mother and talked to him and he thanked me but did not  join my party! He's just sitting at the church... It's pissing me off! I got everyone else already and I want the complete set dammit!

Wait until act 2.

Yeah, after doing his "companion" quest in Act 2 (you get it right off the bat) you can choose to recruit him.

He is a pretty sick companion btw.

On a completely unrelated note, if I go into the Deep Thaig Expedition do I lose the rest of the sidequests in from Act 1 (since I assume there will be another time jump)? Cause I only have 2-3 left and I might as well do them if they disappear...

Super dumb that you have to wait till act 2 in my opinion.

I was honestly surprised at the amount of dialog he provides for missions. He also has serious issues with apostates which makes him a great pair with Anders. You'd think they'd eventually stop bitching at each other but they don't.
