Well, the wait was long...
Dragon Age: Inquisition has been a sober point of reflection for me. I've been playing Bioware RPGs since the original Baldur's Gate came out in 1998. I loved Baldur's Gate; sequels and expansions included. Maybe I still do, I'm not sure, but I've put hundreds of hours into that series of games and still view it with a sense of reverence. I've progressed along with subsequent franchises and game engines, each only slightly more bewildering than the other. I've finally reached the point with the ending of Inquisition where I don't really want to play another Bioware RPG.
I think my feelings draw from the general fatigue that I now experience with the story that accompanies every single game that Bioware puts out along with the motivations of characters (that don't make any sense) and waning level of tactical challenge. I put 85 hours into Inquisition and cannot bring myself to consider doing it all over again to choose different story paths. Perhaps I am just regaining sanity where there once was none. Is there a healthy middle ground? Probably not with this level of time investment. Also, why doesn't anyone explode on critical hits anymore? And why are bears so fucking tough? Anyway, I think this has been a long time coming for me.
On a positive note, the game looks great. The voice-overs are well done and there is a lot of polish put into the production in general. You definitely won't be able to fit it onto 5 CDs. I think you would really like this game if you enjoy MMORPGs where there aren't any other live people and everything happens in your own instancing. That being said, it all seems very sterile much like an empty MMORPG, until you get to computer nudity. Well, that's if you want to slog your way through the computer romance.
In conclusion, play it or don't. Might I recommend Far Cry 4 or Endless Legend instead.
