But if the disk isnt present, then they get to take your firstborn there and then - or if you havent one yet, in the future they will come and take it at birth.

So is disk checking effective? Because I'm not really all that knowledgeable about the effectiveness of various forms of DRM (SecuRom, Online checking, Steamworks, ect.) and would like to be better informed.

No DRM is effective. There isn't a single game that isn't available for download in a short space of time after launch. Apart from MMOs, even multiplayer games like TF2 have cracked servers to play on.

Not really, but besides Online checking, nothing else is more "effective". All of that DRM stuff has been hacked to piece and people who actually want to pirate games will have little to no problem craking that stuff.

Meh, I don't like having the disk in the tray but oh well, there'll be cracks on launch day. At least they realise draconian DRM pisses off customers without helping against piracy so they step down.

I see EA have learnt there lessons from what happened with Spore and what negative reception the game got because of it's DRM.

If they're doing this, they probably don't care if it's "effective".

Well its not like DRM would help in the first place against piracy of the game, so, this is far better. They seem to know this at least.
