Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
When fighting is no longer relegated to the ground, but can also take place in the air.
Anime Fighter is the theme genre of Fighting Games. Either regular FGs (i.e Guilty Gear and BlazBlue) or anime licensed fighting games (i.e Dragon Ball, JoJo, One Piece) that had fast-paced action, put in emphasis on offense over defense and different fighting systems.
A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.
Some people will do anything for their families. They will fight, steal and kill to keep those close safe and alive.
A flawless victory is a victory in which the winning player has incurred no loss of health, or in other uses, like Unreal Tournament III or Fury, no points scored against the winning team.
Video games that are based on comic books, manga and graphic novels.
The elite squad within Frieza's henchmen, compromised by the strongest of his men and those with unique abilities.
A ball of energy fired from the palms.
Health is a value that gauges how much damage players can take in a game before they die or pass out. Also known as life in some games. Health is usually represented by a bar or a percentage instead of an exact amount. Found in most non sport games
These games are based off of established licenses, such as movies, comics, or TV shows. Examples are the James Bond 007 and Spider-Man franchises.
Characters that are initially portrayed as evil, but eventually turn out to be good or not as serious of a threat. This also includes villains who remain evil the entire game, but contain some sense of moral goodness or ambiguity.
Often appearing in role-playing games, the reluctant hero starts out not wanting to fight, but ends up getting drawn into the conflict nonetheless. If not forced into it against their will, they are often motivated by love, honor, or a sense of righteousness.
The Demon Clan Namekian's signature attack in DragonBall Z, mostly associated with Piccolo.
Protagonists that have gravity defying hair styles and often appropriately spikey personalities.
A two-dimensional image or animation overlaid into a scene. The foundation of early 2D games, making up everything from props to the player-controlled character.
A special combo-move in fighting games that is executable after building a meter throughout the match (or round).
Commonly found in fighting games, a super meter increases when either a character takes or gives damage (depending on the game). There are many variations on the super meter, depending on the franchise or game.
A superhero is a fictional character of unprecedented physical prowess dedicated to acts of derring-do in the public interest.
Primarily found in fighting or sports games, the versus screen typically masks the load time of an upcoming matchup. Sometimes codes may be entered here that will affect the game.
Just as heroes sometimes fall from grace, occasionally someone who works for the forces of evil will turn their life around and become a good guy.
