Man, I loved this game. I think this was my first RPG video game I ever played.

I recall walking into my friends room and he was writting down EVERYTHING every NPC was saying lol. I asked him what the hell he was doing and then he proceeded to explain.  So I sat down and helped him play this game for the next 72 hours straight I think rofl.

    Good times, good times!

I saw this game in a used game store today for $4 and I immediately snatched it up.  It's the first RPG I EVER played.  I can remember being 10 or 11 and sitting for hours playing this game.  I played this one more than the original Legend of Zelda.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put this game back in my collection.

What exactly was his explanation for writing the entire thing down?

Oh, the reason he wrote down everything was because this was the first time we ever played a RPG video game. We were so young at the time that we did not even realize that writing down everything was useless.  I also think he had read somewhere in the manual or something that mentioned to note that what NPC tell you can be important. So he did not want to miss a thing so he wrote down everything.  Funny in retrospect.

Yeah, back then RPG developers encouraged gamers to write stuff down.  In Japan they even went so far as to make  one handed NES controllers so you never had to stop playing while you wrote stuff down.  I think one even made it over here to the U.S.!

I remember this one well... I got my copy courtesy of Nintendo Power, who were giving away free copies for a 1 year subscription.  I actually enjoyed it... but it didn't really convert me into a RPG fan.

I remember this game.  First RPG I played and I absolutely loved it.  It was before I found grinding out levels to be such a chore in games and I can't imagine how many slime I killed in this game.  I made it to the last boss a few times but could not beat him.  Almost makes me want to give it another go but I wouldn't say it has aged well lol.

I remember going over a friend's house and watching his dad play this game. He had the map and huge manual in his lap and explained what was going on. To a 7 year old Dragon Warrior was serious business.
