I really don't like the female characters. There is a point where you can say that it's somewhat artistic but this passes those lines because it just looks ridiculous. The Amazon and the Dwarf are terrible, and I really hate how the Sorceress is basically riding her staff. So stupid.

It's a stylized design. I don't think it looks better or worse than any comic-, or cartoon-stylized design. The game itself looks fun.

But seriously it's pretty messed up...

The girl with the axe has a jagged-ass booty.

Looks like the artist started with those monster gams and had to contend with lack of space as he worked his way to the top.  

It's just the artist's style, and I honestly really dig it.
 
The same stuff can be seen in the character design for other Vanillaware games too. First two characters that come to mind are Raijin from Muramasa and Brigan from Odin Sphere. You can't really say "yeah those games were okay, but THIS!"

The male designs are very par for the course in terms of characters done by Vanilla Ware.  Just take a look at Odin Sphere and you can see what I mean.  But the female ones.  Man, what is wrong with more delicious Gwendolyn?  Seriously.

I like to think that, since the game's coming out 2012, the art isn't completely finalized.

...let's hope that's true.
