This game seems to have a huge potential

#1 Edited by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

It's an early call, I've not had any hands on but I think (from what I've seen for 2012) this will be my game of 2012.

I love third person games.

I love RGPs.

I love fantasy.

and I love open ended gameplay, but more importnalty I love AI (and the stupid ass thing it can get up to) and your 'pawns' AI seems oddly great.

The engine is the same one used for Lost planet 2 (and that game was really nice looking) and the world is open (loading is only for towns/dungeons) it's been said it'll take you two or more hours to walk one end to another. I know I can get to hyped for games but I really hope it lives up to its potential.

Come on May 25th! (22nd for USA)

Seems DG night time will put you to the test!

Dungeon crawling and the undead, makes me smile!

Picking up rats and rats climing on you confirmed!

From what I've read, I wouldn't expect too many great things from it.

I'll wait and see, but I hope it turns out good.

I watched the whole of that Capcom dude/ developer video and it looks pretty interesting. The magic archer and random giant boss monsters seemed pretty cool. Everywhere looked really windy in the video.

I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm a sucker for fantasy RPGs.

after recent videos/etc about the game, I'm cautiously opitmistic after initially not caring at all.

i'm expecting something broken but wonderful in its own weird way

#8 Posted by Turambar (6790 posts) -

That actually looks pretty decent, a lot better than what was said about it on the Bombcast at E3.

#9 Posted by SuperWristBands (2266 posts) -

Yeah, it looks pretty great.

I love when he picks up the deer and just runs with it. So dumb.

That was pretty cool, but i'll wait for some more info to make my decision on this game.

the Art design(textures, animations, buildings) looks pretty bad... but damn it looks like it'll be fun regardless.

#12 Posted by Masha2932 (1241 posts) -

It looks interesting but it's not a day one purchase for me. I'll probably wait for reviews and maybe a price drop. Also I was disappointed to learn there are no mounts in the game. Why?

#13 Posted by benspyda (2035 posts) -

Pig throwing, my god, this game will be amazing.

Does anyone else get Mount and Blade vibes from the art style. It looks kinda like an indie game for some reason. Still I loved mount and blade so I can handle dodgy graphics.

#14 Posted by Stete (739 posts) -

Well, to be honest, im more worried that this game will get bukkaked with DLC that's already on the disc. Hopefully im gonna be wrong because this game does look like it has potential.

I'm expecting a similar experience to the Souls series, but with some focus on having a party. Sounds good in my books.

#16 Posted by Yummylee (21794 posts) -

I'm pretty excited for it and I've been keeping tabs on a lot of the updates; some parts, like the prioritised animations during combat, remind of the Souls games even. The Pawn system look like it could get super annoying, though, since from most of what I've seen they will simply never cease to shut the fuck up during combat. Otherwise it looks like it could be something special. CAPCOM are certainly putting enough effort into it at least. Only second to RE6 with the amount of people they've got working on it.

#17 Posted by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

@Masha2932: Yeah so far as I know no mounts but it does have a fast travel system.

: You can thankfully turn down how much the 'pawns' talk in the options.

This.

Plus it has a highly customizable character editor. Maybe like this I will be able to transfer default male Shepard to a fantasy world :D Or maybe my Jensen. Harr, so many handsome men, so little me...

oh hey that actually looks kind of cool

#22 Posted by Jack268 (3387 posts) -

I wasn't gonna buy it until I saw this but now I have it preordered.

#23 Posted by Xearo (55 posts) -

After the SFxTK stuff I decided to take a break from Capcom games and this is the only game that is tempting me, I actually enjoyed Lost Planet 2 and this has been giving me that vibe for a while, but I'll probably wait until it drops in price first

#24 Posted by derskusmacher (20 posts) -

I'm cautiously optimistic. There's definitely a Monster Hunter vibe with it which is good. Probably not a day one purchase but I'll be keeping my eye on it.

The part when the dude was stabbing the dragon in the face while it flew high into the air was epic.

I don't know why it is getting bad word of mouth. It looks great. It's open world.

Also it seems to treat night time as... you know night time where things are dark. Just watch this.

#27 Posted by huntad (1941 posts) -

Well, the embedded trailer definitely bored me. I'll go look for some other ones and see if this game looks any good.

#28 Edited by Funkydupe (3321 posts) -

Oh it has a big something alright that's for sure! /insert hearty laugh here, but don't overdo it. that would be bad...

#29 Posted by FritzDude (2263 posts) -

It looks like a good game and definitely something I would like, but I just can't get it until much later.

Looking forward to it after watching some recent footage. The pawn system is a really neat idea for passive multiplayer - you create an AI companion, give it gear, then choose from a pool of other player created characters to form a party. You can leave feedback, recall favorites, and companions will bring experience and items back into your game for helping others.

Skyrim/Dark Souls comparisons getting thrown about seem pretty apt, the world is huge with lots of RPG stuff to do. Art direction isn't particularly inspired, but looks like the game has a lot of potential based on everything else I've seen.

#32 Edited by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

Now with some background story;

All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again.

Part 2

Bring out your mighty pawn.

Don't over use your pawns

My thoughts too.

Whenever I see a game like this, i automatically think about certain other open world high fantasy games and get discouraged.... Skyrim was fantastic, but how many other open world games out there just kinda fell flat. Reserving true judgement on this one till it comes out. I'm sure I'll give it a try, just not sure if that try will be a purchase or a borrow/rental yet.

#35 Posted by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

So next week we'll be able to test the game out to a limited degree. I'm very eager to see how this game feels if its anything like the character movement in Darksouls I'll be one happy chap.

In anticipation to the full game, enjoy the below;

Hasn't this already been released? Or am I just getting this confused with a hundred other fantasy RPGs?

#37 Posted by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

The Demo is 24/25 April. Unless they did a Blizzard and dropped it early.

Sorta the same for me. It was a "meh it exists" game on my radar over there in the corner.... Then about a month ago when they started putting out alot of vids/content for the game it sort of jumped to a "hey this thing is potentially good". Since then I have seen enough that it has become a day one for me. So maybe I am more than cautiously optimistic? Either way I can't wait to find out if I can suplex a pig into a cow for a double take down.

It looks pretty fun and I'm looking forward to the demo, but from the sounds of things Capcom doesn't want my money. If they did, they wouldn't be trying to sell me 100 side quests worth of DLC (thats most likely already on the disk) before the game is even released, I mean its not like they've had any issues with their DLC recently :/

and then I found out about the pre-order items...

#40 Posted by YI_Orange (1151 posts) -

I hope this isn't the disappointment of the year, but I can tell I'm gonna be sad.

#41 Posted by artgarcrunkle (970 posts) -

Holy shit goddamn do I want this to be good, Skyrim and Amalur were crazy boring and this looks pretty neat.

and then I found this...

ARMOR UPGRADE PACK – Commence your adventure in Dragon's Dogma with an armor upgrade early in the game. This armor pack will stock your item storage with sturdy armors for Fighter, Strider and Mage. A Farewell Hood, Farewell Gloves, and a Farewell Cloak will help you no matter your new vocation, making your adventures sweet and easy as Meloirean pie.
PAWN UPGRADE PACK - Begin your Dragon’s Dogma adventure with an additional 2,000 Rift Crystals! This early ‘cash advance’ will allow you to enlist higher level PAWNs early on in addition to having an expanded set of items available for purchase at Aestella's shop in Cassardis!
WEAPONS UPGRADE PACK – Start off your adventure in Dragon's Dogma with a weapon upgrade! This weapons pack will stock your item storage with dependable weapons for Fighter, Strider and Mage. With an Iron Sword, a Criteria, and a Wooden Staff, each upgraded, your adventuring will be a piece of Cassardian Fishcake.

These are pre-order items.
