I did a little research before I picked the game up and knew from the get go that Magick Archer was going to be what I wanted to eventually play as.  So, I leveled up a Strider and last night switched vocations to the Magick Archer.  So far it's pretty darn fun.  It's not as powerful as I thought it would be but I only have a couple skills.  I still need to level the class up more before I can get the heavy hitting stuff.

What about you guys?  What vocation did you go with for your main character and how are you enjoying it?

Ranger, I'm digging the longbow. I was hoping you could move more over between classes than just augmented but whatevs.

Yeah, same here.  But I guess it makes sense.  New classes need new skills so you lose the older ones.

How is your damage output as a Ranger?  Do you still go head to head any or are you strictly shooting from afar.

Magick Archer. I like it, has some really cool dagger attacks. My bow is a little underpowered at the moment though. It's amazing, I found all these amazing lvl 60 and 70 longswords and nothing for my or my pawns vocation.

I started off as a Fighter, then an Arcane Knight. Then just recently switched to Magic Archer. I will eventually try them all, but so far the AK and MA are pretty damn fun.

@Yummylee: You will soon enough if you stick to the fighter vocation.  As you level him up the options will be made available to level up the others.

They all open up once you hit level 10. Not a level 10 fighter, just level 10 as a character. Then you go to an Inn and you can change your vocation.

Right now I am a fighter, going to switch to strider for some augments today, then hopefully by 40 go full on assassin for the duration with maybe a break here and there to pick up some other cool augments.

So how does it work exactly? is it that you have to get all 9 levels in both basic classes to go hybrid (9 in strider, 9 in fighter to go assassin, for example)?

No, once you reach character level 10 you can switch to anything you want. As long as you have the points for it, 1000 or 1500 depending on what class. And I forget the point system name. The level has nothing to do with vocation level. Just once your overall character level is 10.

And its a good idea to mix it up, as you can retain certain skills and abilities when changing.

Sorcerer. Tricky to play, because you really need your pawns to cover your squishy rear while you charge up the spells, but once those suckers are let loose, it's over. No questions, no mercy. Fight = over.

I'm playing as a Ranger, and I am loving it. The Heptad shot has been very useful.

I went Ranger. At first in the demo I wasn't feeling the Strider so much, but once i started to get more bow skills in the full game I really liked it. As a ranger my go to skills are tenfold shot and meteor shot(?). Also, I find reset really good for stringing dagger skills together. All in all the damage output is very high but at the cost of alot of stamina, that's my only gripe.

I generally play casters, and also found this to be the case. I promptly switched over to Mystic Knight and it's honestly a blast. Those spell effects on all four magic classes are phenomenal, but I'd personally not spend the entire game standing still, hoping not to get hit. :P

Instead I use crazy abilities like Magick Canon and protect my own explosive casters. :D

@project343: I've been debating switching over to a Mystic Knight, mostly for the armor benefits, but I'm wary about giving up, or cutting down on, my spells, especially the end tier Sorcerer ones. What are the benefits/disadvantages in comparison?

@JonSmith: I'm only 24 right now and haven't dabbled much in Sorcerer, so I really couldn't say. I just think the melee combat in this game is a lot less frustrating than the casting. So benefit: less frustration when your casting breaks? :P

I have got to play this game already. Too many games dropping at once is my excuse. Being able to hybrid and change after lvl 10 sounds very good.

I am a mage but I just maxed the vocation yesterday (I'm level 22) so I will switch to either a Sorcerer or to a Mystic Knight. But my xbox power cord died, so it'll be a few days until I can switch vocations.

I'm playing strider/mage related things. I went magic archer after getting to vocation 3 or 4 in strider and I'm loving it but I could see myself really enjoying anything that isn't entirely about 24/7 clobberin' time.

My main's still a fighter (tried the warrior some, but didn't appreciate how slow it made me) and I think I'm going to stick with that till I max it out. Then I'll probably switch to Assassin so I can keep my Sword & Shield combo but also make use of a bow. Especially since my character's a redhead named Leliana, so how can I not give my main a bow to shoot!

@Yummylee: Good choice. If you want a lot of Stamina, you can stack Stamina increase augments. It really helps when you use Lyncean Sight as much as I do.

Strider for now. I like ranged combat, especially with bows. Not sure yet if I'll go for Assassin or Magick Knight...
