Unfortunately this game doesnt seem to have that much publicity going for it. All of the threads relating to it are from 1 year ago.

Anyway first episode of Dreamfall Chapters is out now on steam. This game is a sequel to The Longest Journey and Dreamfall games. Which were pretty good adventure games when they came out. I would personally rate The Longest Journey as one of the best adventure games ever made.

Here is a link to the steam page:

I feel it was mentioned recently somewhere on Giant Bomb (Maybe a trailer- yes here)

So, it's not unexpected, but bad timing for me right now. Not only do I have a mountain of back log games to play, to play this I have to play the original (again) and Dreamfall (again) before I can play this.

I wanted to back the kickstarter, but that too came at a bad time for me. I really wanted a physical copy of this game.

It'll have to wait, but I can't lie- I'm super excited to play it. Maybe by the time I get to it more of the game will be out.

Very excited about this, but because it's episodic I am waiting to play it until all 5 chapters are released (just how I do things).

I am very glad they are getting to finish April & Zoe's stories.

Super excited, i won't play it untill the weekend because i want to dedicate some serious time to it, however i'm downloading it right now and can't freaking wait for saturday. The first game was published 15 years ago, it really has been the longest journey

It was pretty weird to see the game almost get delayed in the last minute as a backer, but I'm pretty excited that it's finally out. I've waited so many years for this, what's another couple of months for chapter 2.

I'll probably get around to it next week. I'm such a huge fan of the first game so I'm pretty excited to jump into this post-Bayonetta 2.

Yeah, I liked TLJ and loved Dreamfall. I backed the Kickstarter and just grabbed it on Steam but I'm not going to have any time to play it anytime in the near future. Glad to hear positive responses so far though!

Hmmm,I want to be really excited for this and yet I dunno. Kinda concerned about the story since Zoe is back as the protagonist seemingly just because.

The ending of Dreamfall seemed pretty conclusive about her fate...

Ah who am I kidding it will be good.

I only played a little bit so far, and it sure looks really good. And already has some really interesting concepts.

Also I'm pretty sure I'm gonna play through The Longest Journey and Dreamfall between chapters of this being released, because I feel I've forgotten a whole lot.

I tried watching walkthroughs of the first 2 games on YouTube but never succeeded. The games seemed interesting to me and all the praise they have gotten is hard to ignore so when this hits PSN, I'll grab it. For now, I'm going to go check out this out on YouTube.

Nothing about this release yet on the front page, I guess it isn't wrestling based enough. I wonder if someone will even quicklook it.

I'll play it when all chapters are released. I can't stand waiting for episodic releases, which is annoying since it seems that's how every adventure game must be released now

I don't feel like replaying the old games. Is there enough of a recap that I don't need to?

Just finished this earlier... It's somewhat underwhelming. Not only is it short (took me a bit more than 3 hours), it's all introductory sequences that don't really go anywhere. There's a pretty cool explorable area but you don't get to do much in it yet. Mechanics are introduced in the first chapter and then immediately abandoned. It seems better to wait for the rest of the episodes to come out after all.

Gosh, the puzzles are pretty old-fashioned too. Got stuck on a couple and had to brute force my way through... the solutions are pretty bewildering.

That said, it's at least got potential! It keeps talking all about choices and consequences, so I can't wait to see the latter half of that in the later episodes.

I don't feel like replaying the old games. Is there enough of a recap that I don't need to?

One of their achieved stretch goals were to make an interactive comic as a story recap, and there is a "Story Recap" on the main menu but it's disabled for whatever reason. I'm not sure what happened to it.

For me it brings back all the memories of those old games. The tone and setting and perfect, yes it would be better as a whole package and it has become very Telltale, which is really doesn't need to. Still brilliant.

I'm finding the political messaging a bit weird. The parallels to Europe, socialism vs conservatism. It's interesting, at least, if a tad preachy? I wonder what will come of it.

@fingerprints: It borrows a lot from telltale, but there is still that more open element, and the fact that you click on all sorts of things and you get the internal monologue of the character. Telltale games have basically stripped all that to basically be conversation engines and quicktime events.

Strange. I will probably pick this up when all episodes have been released, so hopefully it will work then.

I never even played the first one, which is bad seeing how I am Norwegian...
I think one of the main reasons why was the fact that I played the first hour or so in Norwegian, at the behest of my ex. She loved the game, and said it was great and should be played in Norwegian. But I got some issues with my mother tongue when it comes to games, movies and such. It's just so... theatrical. In a bad way. It almost always feel fake to me, and that is exactly how the game felt, despite what seemed like good voice acting.

Should I go back and play the first ones? I mean, a lot of people love them, and it seems this might turn out to be good.

Also a big Longest Journey fan and I also liked Dreamfall despite it's shortcomings. I backed the Kickstarted when it was revealed and just played a bit today. Seems pretty good so far, really nice looking too.

I played about an hour of it, seems alright. Some of the voice acting is a little funny, but that might be due to someone trying really hard to hide a Norwegian accent.

    Just finished Book 1. Amazing.

Some of the best and funniest writing of the series yet. Environments are outstanding. Conversations way more in depth.

Some technical issues, but if that bothers you, wait a week.

@jaqen_hghar You could skip TLJ, but Dreamfall would be pretty worthwhile playing prior, as both that game and the new game tell Zoe's story.
TLJ is the first half of April Ryan's story, and they are planning on doing a game set in between TLJ and Dreamfall (10 year gap) that is the second half of April Ryans story. April is a playable character in Dreamfall as well, but is there to support Zoe's story.
TLJ is definitely worth playing though, and definitely parts of Dreamfall are there to reference it.

I should state that the frame rate is really, really bad in many places. Also there is some issue with flickering and lens flare in places. Fingers crossed that they fix this as I've heard that these issues are endemic to more complex Unity games.

@jaqen_hghar: If you have any affinity for classic adventure games, play the first one when you have time. It's not completely compulsory, but it provides some context and is also a great game in its own right.

Unfortunately this game doesn't run very well on my laptop. I'm using an Asus Zenbook I bought almost 3 years ago and it's got an Intel integrated HD 3000 video card, and the min specs call for 4000 or higher. It's kind of un-playable which is really sad because I've been looking forward to playing this game for years and I'm not in a position to buy a new computer any time soon.

I just finished it and its great, very well written, Zoë is still an amazing and believable character that keeps evolving.

I had a couple of drops in fps in Europolis and some animation seemed a bit stiff to me, but it has great production value, you can see how much work has been put into the game,

I cant wait for the next book, but i'll wait as much as i have to, patience has proven to be well compensated by the Red Thread team.

I only remember these games as the most awesome thing i ever played and i was so bummed when there was no sequel planned. I dont remember the actual game... Its right up there with the legend of Shenmue in my mind so when i can get rid of all my irl goings im gonna alot some serious time to get in the right mood and play this. I hope for the best.

Even worse is there is no frame limiting option at all. So if you do have a high end system it just makes it run at full blast for no reason. I tried to play this and the menu screen made my graphics card fan turn up louder than Mordor or Alien which is when I quit before it did some damage.

@rabidlamb: You can use nvidia inspector or RadeonPro to force vsync. However your card shouldn't fry at full load even when running for a while.

Nvidia control panel doesn't work on Direct3d games apparently. Forcing Vsync there was first thing I tried. Other people recommended a program called d3doverride to fix it but I couldn't be bothered to download a separate tool to play this game yet with so many other games to play. Hopefully they will patch it soon as I do really like the other games in this series.
