A new game in The Longest Journey series has been announced by creator Ragnar Tornquist, called Dreamfall Chapters. Tornquist recently departed as Funcom's boss, but will continue to work on The Secret World, the publisher's struggling MMO, as creative director.
Tornquist founded his own independent studio, Red Thread Games, which received a grant from the Norwegian Film Institute of 1M NOK ($175K USD) to produce Dreamfall Chapters.
He reported in a press release: "I'm very excited to finally have the opportunity to continue the The Longest Journey saga.
"Ever since we ended Dreamfall on a nail-biting cliffhanger, players have been rightfully demanding a sequel, and my deal with Funcom will finally make that possible. I'm extremely grateful to Funcom for this unique and exciting opportunity, and I can't wait to dive back into the universe I helped create more than a decade ago, and continue the story players have been waiting for these past six years."
Tornquist once stated in 2006 in an interview that "the classic point-and-click 'graphical adventure' is dead... The point of the 'modern adventure'... is to bring adventure gaming back into the mainstream, and to use technology and gameplay advances to bring the genre forward into the 'next generation'."
No other information is available about the project.
