You see? This is what happens when you don’t always bet on Duke. You’re going to be taken for a ride.

Last week, we heard a rumor that, somehow, the long-in-development Duke Nukem Forever--currently in a state of limbo after 3D Realms was forced to lay off the development team due to the company's inability to continue self-funding the game--was going to be “resurrected” in the hands of Texas-based developer Gearbox, the developers of last year’s excellent first-person RPG, Borderlands. When asked to comment on the rumor, Gearbox president/Samba De Amigo fan Randy Pitchford tweeted that he would be able to "clarify" the rumor at this weekend’s PAX

And now, just days before the start of PAX and that supposed clarification, George Broussard, current president of the empty office that is 3D Realms, tweeted the following image.

    No Caption Provided

    Huh. Flying pigs.

Wait. Isn't there some sort of metaphorical significance of flying pigs? Aren’t pigs supposed to fly when something super crazy and unexpected happens? And hey! What’s up with the sunglasses on that pig in the front? It kind of look like that flying pig is wearing Duke Nukem’s glasses.

    That’s weird.

I’m sure this doesn’t mean anything. I mean, it’s not like this image somehow corroborates the rumor, right? I mean, it’s crazy to say this image indicates that, yes, Duke Nukem Forever is once again in development, and Gearbox is somehow involved with that new development, and that we will hear more information on the current arrangement at PAX.

That would just be crazy, right? Right?

Wonder how that will turn out, I'm not sure I have much excitement for this game after all these years but I can't say I'm not interested to see what Gearbox do with the franchise

Can someone tell George Broussard that no one actually cares about Duke Nukem anymore?  He's a total product of the 90s, and by now everyone's interest isn't about playing the actual game as much as it is the story behind it.  Gearbox is great, I think, but by now this is more of a running gag (that has outlived its prime) than a product consumers are interested in.

You care about it ironically, as witnessed by throwing out meaningless and overused internet catchphrases to be used by 14-year-olds.  Your "care" for Duke Nukem Forever is equal to the "love" everyone has for Rick Astley.

If this game comes out, I will buy it day one, play it thoroughly, find every way to make Duke say something stupid, and then uninstall it with the realization that Duke Nukem was awesome in the 90's but not so much now.

I have few good memories of Duke, I care little about what was in the leaked footage.
However.....I do love me some stupid shit. And this is REALLY stupid shit. From a butt.
    I'm now stoked for this!
    I'm now an idiot!
Wonder if Gamestop still takes pre-orders for it? They did here in Norway long after the thing died, crawled into something dead, and died again. How silly of them.

I'm actually more psyched about a new Gearbox game than I am about a new Duke Nukem. But it would be nice if they just finally got that fucking game out the door so people wouldn't have to talk about it anymore.

I guess I would try out the game if it was released but I lost most of my enthusiasm in 2001 after it was delayed for the third time. Also if this is true, will Gearbox be able to produce a game that meets the aims and ambitions 3d Realms had for the game? (if they had any that is)
