I wasn't old enough to be aware of Duke 3D nor of DNF when it first began its long development cycle. However I played the XBLA release of Duke 3D and it was a really enjoyable experience. I loved running around every level attempting to discover any kind of object that I could interact with as well as finding the many secrets that were scattered around. While I've yet to finish Duke 3D I've been following the tale of DNF since late 2008 and from what I've seen I think it could bring me the same feeling that Duke 3D gave to me when I first played it. While I'm still not sure that I'll actually be buying the game yet I'm keeping a keen interest in the game.
Duke Nukem Forever
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jun 14, 2011
After approximately fourteen years of development, the heavily infamous sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was finally released, in which the macho Duke must damper yet another alien invasion.
Why will/won't you be buying Duke Nukem Forever?
I will buy DNF because i like good shooters and because Duke Nukem is badass
its the same as how everyone bought the 2008 Guns N Roses album.. its motherfucking Guns N Roses, and they worked on that release for 17 years
I will buy Duke Nukem Forever since he's a childhood hero of mine.
Besides, in a world filled with Modern Warshooters everywhere, it's safe to bet on Duke!
Hail to the king baby!
" I will buy DNF because i like good shooters and because Duke Nukem is badass its the same as how everyone bought the 2008 Guns N Roses album.. its motherfucking Guns N Roses, and they worked on that release for 17 years "yeah, but the difference is that axl rose didn't keep trashing the CD as he was almost done.
I'm not because it's going to be mediocre as all hell
Didn't the last Guns N Roses really really suck? That's what I heard. If DNF is that I'll stay away from it and spend my money elsewhere.
I'm not going to buy Duke Nukem Forever. I really don't feel attracted towards the whole American hardcore muscle aesthetic this game carries. Also, I started gaming with the PSone, never really touched the classic version, so I don't have that nostalgic factor most people are hanging on to as a reason to buy this.

I wont be buying it because judging from the gameplay vids, its looks just like borderlands. Which ive already played and didn't particularly care for.
Also I never played any of the previous DN games so don't have any affinity for a new one.
Well Chinese Democracy was made by Guns n Roses but DNF isn't being made by 3D Realms." Didn't the last Guns N Roses really really suck? That's what I heard. If DNF is that I'll stay away from it and spend my money elsewhere. "
I wont go into specifics again because I have in several threads already but I think DN is past his prime. Unless the game is just amazing I wont be getting it, DN is just not a relevant character anymore.
This question only has 1 right answer: "I don't know enough about this game to make a purchasing decision yet."
All you people making buying decisions based on the carefully crafted marketing and hype need to STOP. You are the reason crappy rehashed games get made. If you aren't going to make an informed decision please have the decency to shut up about it and not talk others into it against their better judgment.
I'll buy it just to say that I have it. In the event that I need proof that all time has stopped, there it shall be.
" I'm buying it because the tutorial level explains how to pee in a toilet "Does it really? Well hell, it doesn't matter if it turns out good or not if thats the level of entertainment. I will spend my money elsewhere.

"I'll wait for reviews and, if they're good, I'll wait until it's cheaper. Not buying it only because of its mythic status. "
" i will buy Duke Nukem Forever because DN3D is one of my top games ever "Mmmmmmmmm this right here
If I like the look of it I'll buy it, same with any other game. Sure it's been an interesting story in game development but ultimately if the game is shit people aren't going to buy it. If Gearbox can salvage a story, interesting gameplay elements and the Duke feel (which I think they've done from the initial write ups), then good on them.
Incidentally, when is the documentary coming out?
I haven't decided. They haven't even released a trailer yet. If you didn't attend PAX, all you've got is some old gameplay footage that may not be that relevant, some off screen footage that doesn't show a lot, and some reports from other people who played a demo. I think it's too soon to be able to answer this question. I played and loved Duke Nukem 1, 2, and 3D as a kid and loved them all, but that's no reason for me to already want this. I loved Star Wars as a kid, but that didn't make the prequels better.
I also believe Duke is past his prime, at least in the form he has appeared in previous games. However, I still think the character can be handled in a way that is relevant and fun today. It's like the Expendables. You put the stars of that movie in the kind of stuff that made them famous 20 years ago and it wouldn't work. However, in the context of that movie, with a nod and a wink to the source and not taking itself seriously, it can still be entertaining.
It doesn't look particularly unique, but I'll be buying it for the nostalgia factor. I didn't play Duke 3D much, but I can remember playing it at a neighbor's house way back, one of my earliest gaming memories.
I might buy it; depends on my financial situation/number of games coming out at the same time that I want more.
What even is Duke Nukem Forever. Is it like supposed to be funny or something because it is in no way funny. I just never understood what it is that people like about it.
There is room in my library for a first person shooter that at least is honest about its stupidity and hilarity.
However, this spot seems to be filled by Bulletstorm just fine, which also has Co-Op.
So unless something crazy happens like DNF being a game you feel has 13 years of development and an astonishing amount of detail and ideas in it, no.
I was kind of on the periphery of the Duke Nukem fervor when it was a thing, so this game has something of an uphill battle to interest me. It has to appeal to me based on its merits, and less on the fact that, hey, it's a Duke Nukem game.
Not that I'm set in concrete against buying this game. If it's a legitimately interesting game, then I'll hop on board and check it out.
