Seriously i applaud the production values of this game, the world appears big and detailed and with tons of both spoken and written dialogue, yet the actual "game" suffers from such horrible design choises that its plain mind numbing.
*As a Client:
Just played a 4 hour online session only to find out it saves NOTHING:
- No Levels
- No gear
- No story progression
- Not even your talent choices are transferred!
*As a Host:
and here is the joke. the players joining your game get complete controll over the sidekicks they still get to decide on:
- Vendor/destroy any gear at will
- Pick any talent build
- inventory is shared between host and clients meaning there is no way to "bank" particularly good items to keep them safe from malicious players.
- EVERYTHING a client decides is permanently merged with the host's save (saving is still a manual action but there is no action log or even a way to inspect the player controlled sidekicks)
This means that when joining someone else's game you are always stuck with someone else's talent build and ability's.
You can spend hours playing online speccing a character according you YOUR playstyle, and as soon as you relog to a diverent session your stuck with someone elses impossible hodge podge of a build
I understand they decided not to transfer gear as it could lead to balancing issues where one character ends up significantly stronger than the other but forcing players to use other peoples builds (wich have a significant impact on playstyle) is just horrible, cruel and sadistic
damn,
Dungeon Siege III
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Jun 17, 2011
Dungeon Siege 3 is the third instalment of the Dungeon Siege franchise. It tells the tale of the fallen 10th Legion taking back the Kingdom of Ehb from the popular Azunite champion Jeyne Kassynder.
This game is a joke - DS3 multilayer explained
Dungeon Siege was never about multiplayer, it was about Diabloesque hack and slash gameplay with tons of loot.
Then again, if they already decided to make a multiplayer component, they should have made it good, but if i get the game, it will be because of the single player.
The big question, is it consolified?
In short, the singleplayer is good, you should probably buy it and enjoy it if that's what you're after.
@Questionable: I agree it's a bit shitty but on the other hand because it's a story-based game it would ruin the balance otherwise. Like in Borderlands if someone was ahead or behind someone would become either overpowered or useless and that was their solution. They should add discrete campaigns with genuine multiplayer (like a high-level dungeon crawl) leaving the story mode as it is.
Yeah, like that was hard to do :D@TheDudeOfGaming:The character customisation options and stat systems are more developed.
I'm hoping it will be a great game.
Also...you commie bastard,nah jk.
The demo was medicore as hell so meh.Yeah, just very dull. It's a shame because I do enjoy a good loot fest, but this is just such a bland package. The middling multiplayer makes it sound even less appealing.
@GoofyGoober said:Bland like how? Unlike almost all action rpgs, DSIII isn't shit as an action game and as an RPG. I wouldn't say it's fantastic but it's definitely better than the norm. The demo was medicore as hell so meh.Yeah, just very dull. @Chris2KLee said:The story and presentation are pretty boring, and while loot fests aren't exactly known for their stories, I would have liked something more than boring voice over and still image cut scenes. Especially if you are going to lock me to 4 premade characters. Again, I only played the demo, so maybe it really picks up later, but from what I played there was nothing there that made me feel I need to drop $60 on it right away.@GoofyGoober said:Bland like how? How dare Obsidian shit on the literal dozens of die hard Dungeon Siege fans. Jason Statham would be rolling in his grave if he wasn't immortal.

Jason Statham is all I can think about when I think of Dungeon Siege.
The Clients are free to chose any of the remaining 3 characters. Is the joining player able to choose their character or are they forced to use whatever character is following the host around?
- The host is stuck with the same character for the entire campaign
- Its not possible for multiple people to play the same character
- Clients can only change theyr character on a complete wipe
I cant wrap my around how they decided not to let players keep theyr own talent builds, this is not a zero sum game its very easy to feel useless because you are lacking key talents
losing your level/gear to balance out the multiplayer is completely understandable, but not being able to specialize according to your own style is a constant hindrance and deterrent from enjoying the combat.
It's just as bad as the demo. I play as Anjali and the voice sounds poorly done. How is the voicework in the release version, because the demo had some horrible voices especially the archon chick, it sounded like they just put it through a text to speech program.
The main problem with Dungeon Siege III for me, other than the multiplayer being weird, is the fact that on consoles it looks notably worse than the PC version and even installed has major performance issues.
I actually dont find the voices distracting at all. Baring there are certain ups and downs in quality, playing as Reinhard he even gets in some good sarcastic comments. How is the voicework in the release version, because the demo had some horrible voices especially the archon chick, it sounded like they just put it through a text to speech program.
Finding the voices above average for a videogame, especially considering the sheer volume of it.
The demo was medicore as hell so meh.This.
I love a good Diablo game (shame there hasn't been one since Titan Quest). This is not one of them--if the demo is any indication.

Dungeon Siege was definitely built with co-op in mind, right from the first game and the second game was specifically geared primarily towards co-op - it even had a long term open beta for the MP where MS were hoping to eventually turn it into an MMO of sorts. Have you actually played the previous games?
To be honest i find the ability of not being able to bring in a character befitting of my own ability/proficiency preferences many times more appalling than then not getting to keep any loot/experience
I started playing the game with that Anjali chick but soon restarted as the girl with a rifle instead becouse Anjalis voicework was unbearable to listen to. It made my head hurt.
Now roughly 2 hours later the fucking game gives me Anjali as an ai controlled coop character................... im very close to putting this game away in a very dark and forgotten corner.

Wait, Torchlight happened since Titan Quest. I thought it was pretty good.
On topic, that just really seems like a poor way to handle multiplayer in 2011. The only time I would play that sort of multiplayer would be if I had a close friend with whom I was going to play the entire game. Oh well, I'll just wait patiently for Diablo III to come out. And Torchlight 2 for that matter.
I love torchlight, looking forward to the second game and its coop.@project343 said:

I agree with SeriouslyNow. Multiplayer was a major part of Dungeon Siege. I still have the original discs for the first one and I've been playing it again. I used to play it back in the day with a good friend of mine. At the time I skipped the single player all together and we played nothing but co-op.
