Created by David Johnston during beta 4 of the popular Half-Life mod, Counter-Strike, de_dust has become one of the most popular maps across all three versions of Counter-Strike. Inspired by early Team Fortress 2 screenshots, dust was a simple, open, bomb defusal map that was constantly changed during development as it evolved into today's version. The popularity of dust and David Johnston's other maps launched his career into commercial level design for various other games.
