After a subdued event in the last two years, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (known as E3) returned to its former large scale in 2009. This year's event had over 200 exhibitors present and around 40,000 attendees. The show is still not open to the public but it is more open then the previous two years, but less so then its peak attendance of over 60,000 in 2006. The event is owned by the Electronic Software Association (ESA) and only publishers, developers and companies who are part of the ESA are able to exhibit at the expo.
