The 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California on June 2-4.

Overview

After a subdued event during the previous two years, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) returned to its former large scale in 2009. This year's event had over 200 exhibitors present and around 40,000 attendees. Although the show was still not open to the public, it was more open then the previous two years, but less so then its peak attendance of over 60,000 in 2006.

Microsoft - June 1, 2009 - 10:30am PDT

Halo: Reach announced. Beta will be included in Halo 3: ODST.
Project Natal announced. This is a motion detection camera which allows you to directly control what is happening on-screen with just your body. Peter Molyneux (Person) said Lionhead is developing for this and so is Steven Spielberg (Person).
Metal Gear Solid: Rising announced. The game focuses on Raiden rather then Snake.
Left 4 Dead 2 (Game) announced. It will be released on November 17, 2009.
Splinter Cell: Conviction was demoed and is exclusive to Xbox 360.
Forza Motorsport 3 (Game) confirmed. The game will now include in-car view.
Crackdown 2 (Game) announced.
Modern Warfare 2 shown and demoed. Will have two timed exclusive map packs for the Xbox 360.
Facebook and Twitter now implemented into Xbox Live (Concept). Sky TV (UK only) and Last.fm now also compatible with Live.
Two new XBLA games announced: Shadow Complex (Game) and Joy Ride.

Nintendo - June 2, 2009 - 9:00am PDT

New Super Mario Bros. Wii revealed. Gameplay includes 4 player co-op, new items and new levels.
Golden Sun DS announced.
Metroid: Other M shown. A Wii game that is developed jointly be Team Ninja (Company) and Nintendo (Company) and is set to be released in 2010.
Two DSiWare (Platform) exclusive games announced: Mario vs. Donkey Kong: The Minis March Again and WarioWare: DIY.
The next game in the Mario and Luigi RPG series was revealed: Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. It is due for release in Fall 2009.
Reggie won a game of Wii Sports Resort (Game) basketball.

Sony - June 2, 2009 - 11:00am PDT

Rumors of PSP Go finally confirmed. It'll retail at $249 and doesn't include a UMD slot.
Gran Turismo PSP also re-confirmed (after its fateful showing when the PSP was first announced). It will inlcude over 600 cars, 80 tracks, car tading and will be released at the same time as the PSP Go.
Resident Evil: Portable announced for the PSP. It will debut next year as is designed specifically for the PSP.
Hideo Kojima (Person) came on to stage to premiere Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It's made for the PSP and it follows Big Boss (Character) as he sets out to create Outer Heaven (Location).
Over 50 titles coming to PSN 'classics' by the end of the year. Final Fantasy VII (Game) became available immediately.
Final Fantasy XIV Online announced for the PS3 and PC.
God of War III (Game) given a release date of March 2010.
ModNation Racers (Game) announced as a new title in the PS3's 'Play,Create,Share' range of games, in the same vein as LBP.
New motion control technology demoed. Uses wand sensors and has 1:1 movement.
'Project Trico' renamed The Last Guardian (Game).
PSP Assassin's Creed given title of Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines. It will have connectivity with Assassin's Creed II.

This would include video presentations, announcements, advertisements, or any other official reference to the game from its developer, publisher, or platform. They are listed mainly according to the publisher of the game, with a few exceptions where the publisher did not attend the show. An example of this would be a hardware company such as Nintendo or nVidia showing a game not developed or published by them. In several situtations, games either changed their title or even their publisher before they were released. Game Critics Awards

The Game Critics Awards (Concept) are decided by an independent group of North American media outlets. They have selected the most promising games of each Electronic Entertainment Expo since 1998, and have thus become recognized as the most respected "Best of" awards that come out of the annual show. Games qualify for nomination by having hands-on playable versions of the game at the show.

The 2009 awards were decided by the following 29 publications: 1UP, AOL GameDaily, Complex Magazine, Electric Playground, Game Informer, GameSpot, GameSpy, G4TV, GamePro, Game-Revolution, GamesRadar, GameTrailers, Gannett News Service, IGN, Joystiq, Kotaku, Los Angeles Times, Nintendo Power, Official Xbox Magazine, PC Gamer, Play Magazine, Official PlayStation Magazine, Spike TV, UGO, USA Today, Variety, The Wall Street Journal, Wired Magazine and Yahoo!
