What games at the E3 booth impressed you and which left you underwhelmed?

Here are my picks of the most overwhelming games of E3 2010:

    • R.A.G.E.
    • Bulletstorm
    • Portal 2
    • Epic Mickey (Warren Spector FTW!)
    • Dead Space 2
    • Gears of War 3
    • Civilization V (Sid Meier FTW!)
    • Twisted Metal
    • Crysis 2
    • Kirby's Epic Yarn
    • Zelda Skyward Sword
    • The Wticher 2

    The most underwhelming games 2010:

    • Bodycount
    • Kinect (It's just a slightly more advanced version of the gimmicky Eyetoy)
    • Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project
    • Halo Reach (The series will end with whimper, instead of a bang, I just know it)
    • Mortal Kombat
    • Medal of Honor
    • Call of Duty Black Ops
    • Killzone 3
    • Ghost Recon Future Soldier
    • Tera

The series went downhill after the first game, it's all been watered down and overly accessible a.k.a dumb downed. I was looking foward to future Soldier, but the game looks just as shallow as the previous Ghost Recon installments. Also, please back yourself up with a good argument instead of showing off your temper tantrum.

Mortal Kombat is a bit of a suprise, I mean, I'm not the biggest fan but Jeff's frothing at the mouth over it and it seems like he's a pretty big fan.

Gears of War 3, Future Soldier and Reach are my most underwhelming games. Not really overwhelmed by any game.

I was never a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, despite it's gory and cinematic presentation, the gameplay has always been unremarkable. The 2D MK games relied on cheap tactics of using the character's special movies, none of them were balanced and the characters regular moves played the same way. Neither one of them were faster, stronger, or more nimble than the other, with the exception of the bosses. They're competent fighting games at least, good ol' fasion mindless fun, but nothing competitive compared to the King of Fighters series and Street Fighter series. The new Mortal Kombat game seems no different from previous games, except they've brought back the gory and violent fatalities.

@CynicalOptimist: I really liked GRAW 2, but this is mostly due to the co-op campaign. Can't say I can comment much on GRFS(fail acronym) but man, I want it.

I thought Skyward Sword was a bit underwhelming because of its presentation. However, I love the more colorful art style and the controls worked well according to those who spent time with the demo, so I think it has the potential to be an amazing game, but it`s showing was underwhelming.

Mortal Kombat was underwhelming? Have you SEEN the gameplay footage? It looks amazing.

    Overwhelmed:

    Bulletstorm
    Mortal Kombat
Halo: Reach (first Halo since the original that I'll like? Just maybe)
    Donkey Kong Country Returns
    Epic Mickey
    Portal 2
RAGE (How is that running at 60fps on a 360? That's insane, I can't wait to see what the PC version can do)
    MGS: Rising
    Rock Band 3

    Underwhelming:
     Zelda : Skyward Sword
    Killzone 3
    Every Kinect game
Gran Turismo 5 (PS2 cars, it's just really disappointing, the rest looks good though)

Nintendo's entire line up was really shrug inducing to me. Don't get me wrong I'm really interested in the 3DS but as for actual games... Meh.
I didn't expect it but Rockband 3 and the new guitar had me say WOW. The same with MGS Rising and it's melon cutting action. I was about to write off the whole franchise but this may get a pre-order out of me.

I don't know if anything overwhelmed me, only because we seemed to already know a lot about the games that would've overwhelmed me.

    • Gears of War 3 going 4 player co-op with the campaign is my personal favourite "Around E3 time news".
    • The arcade games are also high on my list. Deathspank, Shank, Tomb Raider, Limbo, all look as good as any retail game to me.
    • Not game specific, but Valve developing for PS3 is another obvious high point.
    • Metal Gear Solid Rising showing some gameplay also increased my interest substantially.

    Overwhelming:

    • Rock Band 3
    • Child of Eden

    Underwhelming:
    • Most of the Kinect games (with the exception of Your Shape, Dance Central, and Child of Eden)

I can't adequately express how disappointed I am in Kinect.  I was really excited to see some creative uses of the tech before E3, and instead there are only 3 games that seem reasonable and 2 of them are ones that I'll never play, even if they look like good implementations of what they are (Your Shape, Dance Central).

Overwhelming?  Hmm, well Kirby's Epic Yarn made the biggest impression on me, but since I don't have a Wii, I'll probably never play it.  Of games, I will play, Civ V, Devil's Third, and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn are probably at the top of my lists.  SW:TOR continues to impress but I already knew it would.

Underwhelming?  Well, most of the FPS games coming out looked very "see it-done it already" although I admit Crysis 2 and Rage are now on my radar.   The stalwarts of Halo, COD and Gears don't move me much at all.  Will I play them?  Sure, but none have that "day one" feel for me.  Also, the Zelda game did not demo well in my opinion.

Gears of War 3 can get away with it, they don't have to change what isn't broken already and third time is the charm. If they repeat the same formula in next insallments, then it becomes stale.

You don't have to buy every shooter that is released. I enjoy having a wide variety to choose from, even if a bunch of them are utter generic crap.

I think Rage looked the most impressive to me at E3 2010. I am excited for a lot of the announced games, but I was expecting some more footage of inFamous 2.

overwhelming:  MGS: Rising.  This comes from someone who has questioned the existence of the MG franchise since its inception.  On at least one occasion these doubts have been voiced out loud, when I was by myself, speaking only to myself.  Okay then.

underwhelming:  The rest of Microsoft's conference.

I have never been a Mortal Kombat fan. Beyond the entertaining fatalities, the gameplay have been shallow and poor compared to competitive fighting games. Such as; The King of Fighters, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, and Samurai Shodown for example. They're mindless fun games, but they haven't evolved since the first game. The new MK doesn't seem to be an evolvement either. If you're excited for it, then I'm glad you are.

Have to really disagree with Mortal Kombat and Halo as well, two of the most impressive looking games at the show, in my opinion.

I'd also switch overwhelmed with Epic Mickey to underwhelmed.  The concept is great, the style and even the cut-scenes look fantastic.  But the gameplay looks horrible.

Why they had to take Crysis and dumb it down even further I will never understand. It almost seems condescending. I mean, it's not like the first game was a super-strategic, hardcore experience: I played through it on Delta with little trouble. It just seems like developers feel forced to develop for the lowest common denominator when they take games to consoles, even though they are vastly overestimating the number of gamers that fall into that category.

I was really pleasantly surprised by GR: Future Soldier and Rage (didn't think they'd have the gameplay to back up the tech, but they seem to).

Medal of Honor was also quite disappointing although I'll hold off judgement on that until it gets closer to release.

Halo: Reach doesn't seem like quite the departure I was hoping for. I'll still play it, but I'm not nearly as excited as I was expecting to be.
