Thought it was press and video game related career people only...

Wait, i'm assuming. Do you work for the press or the industry?

I'm just taking the week off work to absorb the Big Three's  press conference events and the rest of the coverage throughout the show. I do this every year, and it's like a little vacation to enjoy gaming mecca remotely.

I cancelled my cable, since I watch everything online. I'll just watch Giant Bomb coverage and YouTube stuff.

well I am getting my bachelors in game development (programming, ie computer science) so I qualify.

@Axxol
sucks but tv is quite expensive, I wish there was a way to only buy certain channels.

Seems like GDC or something like that would be more appropriate. E3's just a giant party at this point.

except e3 is free where as gdc costs money. Though I agree gdc is better, a bunch of my friends went and I am jealous but there is always next year.

@JJWeatherman: You say it like giant party is a bad thing!

One of these days, I'll go. And I'll be sure to trip a booth babe or two.

@PufferFiz: Think a computer engineering major could get me in?  That's what I'm doing next year.

I was told you had to have at least a game related course, though I have never seen any wording on their site to say if that is 100% or not. Wouldn't hurt to try.

No, but I'll be going to an anime convention the weekend before. It's a poor substitute, but a substitute nonetheless.

It's not a bad thing. It's just that getting to go to E3 because you're studying programming seems kind of ridiculous. Although, I'd totally take that opportunity as well if I were given it.

@PufferFiz: Where did you go to school? Also, how did you get your credentials? I am starting a job with Microsoft soon and I believe that qualifies me to be given a pass.

I am not going to try to go until next year, because you need to show your W4 form to prove your employment and those are based on your prior year's employment and I start this summer.

Wish I could, lived in the midwest all my life and we don't get any of this cool gaming shit.

edit- first convention I'm going to is probably Pax East cause I'll be going to college in Boston and could actually make it there.

I go to the University of Advancing Technology, everything I faxed in was; copy of my schedule, id card, and a signed "proof of enrollment" letter. not sure what you need to send in your employment.

I heard it was a lot less of a party compared to what was going on during the 90s and mid 2000s. They had to lower the sound level and it got smaller

I was going to go, but an unfortunately timed family vacation is keeping me away. Guess there's always next year.

#22 Posted by Underachiever007 (2467 posts) - 2 years, 1 month ago

I really wish I could.

Nope.

#24 Posted by xyzygy (8782 posts) - 2 years, 1 month ago

I would love to but even if I had the chance, I don't know if I could handle the crowd. I wouldn't feel comfortable at all.

#25 Posted by FritzDude (2206 posts) - 2 years, 1 month ago

I want to, but it will be too expensive, for the moment at least. So i will just watch every live stream on the internet throughout the entire week.

I so am going. I haven't got my Microsoft press conference badge yet though

So I have a proposal. I live about 40 minutes away from LA and I usually frequent the Los quite often. I went last year commuting every day of the expo and had the best time. I was covering it for my college newspaper (www.studentvoiceonline.com/e3-2010), but I had the unfortunate event of being lazy this year and not turning in our credentials on time. I won't be attending E3 per say, but doing like I have done before in 2009, will be hanging out at the convention center. So, the proposal. Any GBers who live nearby wanna do a community meetup? In 09, I got to go to a RebelFM meetup and that was quite the success so why can't Giant Bomb have one? I know E3 is all hard work for the press, but I feel like the SoCal Bomb loyals don't really get much attention like PAX. Granted PAX is a public event, but E3 is the only reason why the GB crew would come down to LA. So anyone down for a toast to video games? I know some cool places in downtown but recommendations are always welcome. I know this is just a small plea but hey, maybe I could get some help hyping this shit up? E3 only comes once a year so come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

#29 Posted by PillClinton (3112 posts) - 2 years, 22 days ago

I don't qualify.  I'm in LA too, so it's just rubbed in my face that much more.

#30 Posted by misclet (98 posts) - 2 years, 22 days ago
@100_Hertz: did you see my proposal? come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Jack Tretton invited a ton of people, I was not one of them, my friend is though.

#33 Posted by PillClinton (3112 posts) - 2 years, 22 days ago
@misclet: Oh, no I didn't.  But yeah, I'd be down for a little SoCal Bombers meetup/lurk party at E3.
#34 Posted by misclet (98 posts) - 2 years, 20 days ago
@100_Hertz: awesome! i'm going to create another topic on an E3 meetup for those SoCal Bombers who can or can't make it inside e3 and have the time to hang out and shoot the shit over some drinks.

#43 Posted by misclet (98 posts) - 2 years, 17 days ago
@WR311: I'm in a split between a meetup in a bar in little tokyo or somewhere closer to the convention center. what do you think?
#44 Posted by TJ311 (411 posts) - 2 years, 17 days ago
@misclet: well me and my friends are under 21 and i had a not such a good experience in little tokyo one time, nothing bad just not fun. i would say go for something closer to the convention center. i was recently at LA Live but didnt find anything that would be fun.
