Because they are cheap to license and then everyone keeps saying 'hey remember that Sony trailer with that Nirvana song?'

I'm waiting for someone to cover their songs from their unplugged recordings.

I think it's weird that they have gone with cover versions both times. The version of Heart Shaped Box that plays over the Infamous end credits is so damn similar that the only reason I can think of is that it's cheaper to not buy the originals.

@gunstarred: That one really confused me. The games in Seattle. Nirvana were from Seattle. They put that entire Seattle grunge movement on the map.

So why get a cover version from a band who come from Los Angeles?

Let's just hope they don't licence 'Rape Me' for a trailer...

They probably have some kind of deal with whoever owns the rights to those songs.

Here's another Sony trailer with a cover of a Nirvana song.

@gunstarred: Isn't Courtney Love the issue with licensing Nirvana tracks? Makes sense Sucker Punch would go for it though (Seattle and their attempted atmosphere with InFamous), even if a cover is the only option.

PS. Had to google to check that indeed Courtney Love does own (who's keeping track?) all of Kurt Cobain's songwriting copyrights and who the hell wants to deal with her?

@jazz_bcaz: Yeah, haha I always forget how crazy Courtney Love is. All that nonsense about Kurt Cobain singing other peoples songs in Guitar Hero. I doubt she'd want anything to do with any video game at this point... unless it was going to make her a ton of money.

It makes sense to use Nirvana for Infamous as it is Seattle but having a cover was weird. That Something in the Way cover is great though.

That's an odd one too. I think she lost/sold the rights to his image so I don't understand her dispute, but it always seems to involve some sort of vitriolic outburst of rage to divert attention away from her paper thin excuse/cash grab.

Probably the same thing that was up with Sony and the Spider-Man font back when the PSP and PS3 were new.

I mean, can you blame them? Nirvana is awesome. I'll put on the self titled greatest hits CD that came out in like 2003 and I still am amazed at the range of vocals that Cobain had. That man was amazing and its still frustrating and sad that he took his own life.
