Ecco: The Tides of Time

Ecco: The Tides of Time is the following game in the Ecco the Dolphin series. As with most sequels it continues the story of the original game.

Concepts

Abilitease

Abilitease is an aspect of game design wherein a game will provide a glimpse of your full skill-set at or near the start, only to remove most of these skills, stats, and abilities soon after.
Ancient Advanced Civilization Technology

This concept occurs in many RPGs and Sci-Fi games. The Ancient Advanced Civilization Technology is often a giant weapon (Halo Rings, Giant of Babil, etc.) that becomes a major plot focus in the stories of these games.
Animal Protagonists

Games that have animals as the main character. The character must be playable.
Breath Meter

This shows you how long you have until you start wishing you had gills. When your breath runs out, you may take damage, or you may expire right there, depending on how sadistic the game designers were!
Dolphin

One of the smartest mammals on the planet and star of the Ecco the dolphin games. A speeddemon in the ocean with many tricks. Dolphins also have a particular fondness for fish, and are capable of interstellar travel.
Fish

Cold-blooded aquatic animals that have scales and breathe through gills.
Non-Humanoid Protagonist

Some games feature protagonists that are not humanoid in nature. These are creatures that do not have human characteristics (i.e. stand on 2 legs, have 2 arms, a body and a head).
OnLive

OnLive is a streaming service that utilizes cloud computing technology to stream videogames straight to the consumer's computer or TV.
Pixel Art

Pixel art refers to digital images composed of visible pixels, drawn with individual pixel-level intent and precision.
Q-Sound

QSound is a recording/mixing process used in many audio recordings based on a processing algorithm and used to make sound appear to be in 3D whilst using only 2 speakers.
Redbook Audio

Red Book is the standard for audio CDs. For games, refers to early CD-ROM titles with background music recorded and played back as audio tracks, instead of being generated by the hardware.
Save Point

A save point is a gameplay element typically found in Adventure and RPG games that allow the player to save his/her game session midway through the level. Platforming games like New Super Mario Bros Wii, allows you to save automatically after you defeat a boss like Bowser.
Side-Scrolling

Side-scrolling games present the world as viewed perpendicular to the direction the characters are facing on screen. With a heavy focus on lateral movement, objectives are often met by moving from one end of a stage to the other.
Silent Protagonist

A silent protagonist is a character in a game who speaks no lines of dialogue, letting other characters tell the story in scripted moments or cutscenes. "Let me do everything everyone tells me to do with no question what so ever."
Sound Test

Needs a cheat code to access the sound test.
Steam

Steam is a digital distribution service owned by Valve. Originally created to distribute its own games, Steam has since expanded to become the de facto standard for digital distribution of PC games, and supports community features, downloadable content and achievements. Starting 2010, Steam now offers Mac games as well.
Telekinesis

The ability to manipulate objects with one's mind. Telekinesis is often displayed as an incredibly powerful ability.

What lies ahead, and is distant from the present.
Time Travel

The concept of a character leaping forwards or backwards in time.
Underwater Gameplay

There are lots of things to do underwater, from exploration to combat. Early games tended to treat water as slower moving blue air, but with advances in technology we're seeing an increasing number of options for underwater action.
Virtual Console

The Virtual Console is a platform service that first appeared on Nintendo's Wii and later on the 3DS and Wii U. Games from past consoles are emulated to run on the new hardware with the added benefits of system-level save states and other features.
