They were purchased by Square months ago, and this has been known openly for just as long. Today's announcement is just that Eidos (as a publisher) will cease to exist, with some assets being merged into Square-Enix Europe. Eidos will remain as a brand (packaging, credits etc.) while Eidos studios, such as Crystal Dynamics, will report to Square Europe.

All game packaging will now have the Square Enix name on them. The Eidos name will continue to live on through various game development studios (Eidos Shangai, Eidos Hungary, and Eidos Montreal), however.
