Pc Gamer gave it a a 70, but you can read the review here.  It seems like after the terrible release and the subsequent patches, that the game is actually worth buying after all.  I for one am excited to see how this game turns out.

Same here but I'm going to wait a while until it's actually playable (balance, UI, etc...) before shelling out £30.

How does the multiplayer work? Do you have to be online or can you send moves back and forth via email or something.

It is still not online, so I can't tell you how it is going to work.

I don't think the game is worth playing until they fix the AI.  There is no challenge no matter what level its set to nor how many AI.  Quite frankly, the AI is broken.

At some point though, after so many patches, you have to imagine the game is essentially playing the way they intended it to. And if its still not good, then that's just how it is.

is pretty much all I need to know.  
 
Also, either I really suck at these types of games or my AI isn't broken. I've been threatened right off the bat and had war declared on me inside of 2 or 3 turns in normal mode. What's more, the AI seems to be able to deliver on their threats. At least enough that I decided to restart the game.
 
Not saying the release wasn't fucked to death, since I'm sure other cats have valid complaints and serious issues. Just kinda funny that I haven't quite experienced much beyond intermittent crashes.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Just thought of something now. 
 
In my current save game at home, I have a wife and somehow sired 2 kids with her. If I sell her to a neighboring empire, do I get to keep the kids I had with her? 
 
Does she then have babies with the Emperor Next Door? 
 
Can I then send my (eventually) matured kids over to marry their (eventually) matured half-siblings??? 
 
CAN I FORCE VIRTUAL INCEST? 
 
More importantly: 
 WHY IS THIS A SELLING POINT FOR ME?!

well when "the the AI" gets more "special" I might give it a shot.  Until then GET IT TOGETHER PC GAMER

This game will need a re-launch whenever they have it to a finished product state.  With Civ V just a week away, nobody is going to give this game a look until well later in the year.  The dev needs to find a week either in Dec or Jan where nothing is coming out and they need to put a huge PR thing together if they ever hope to get some faith back.  Naturally drop the price also.

The 1.1 beta is out now and I have to say things are starting to look good. The game mechanics are actually fun and after a hotfix, the beta is very stable for me so far.
 
It's really a shame that they released the game in such a poor state. Hopefully when 1.1 is official and when the expansions come out, people will give it a chance.
 
 If you ordered the game before Dec 31, you get the first expansion free by the way.
