    Company Brief

Empire Interactive was established in 1987. They had their headquarters in the UK also also operated offices in the U.S., Germany, France, Spain and Italy.  Throughout their history, they both published games from external third party developers and also internally developed some titles.  They also operated the Xplosiv and eJay imprints, focused on publishing budget titles (often re-releases of older games from other companies) and music creation tools respectively.

After struggling financially for several years, they were purchased by Silverstar Holdings in 2006 and operated as a wholly owned subsidiary. On May 4, 2009 it was announced that the company had gone into administration (the UK version of bankruptcy) and would be shutting down permanently without an attempt to restructure their operations. Silverstar Holdings was unable to continue funding the company's operation due to their own financial difficulties.  Empire's intellectual properties were sold to New World IP (who eventually licensed the publishing rights to Zoo Digital Publishing Ltd.) and all 49 staff were laid off.
