In 2006, Epic Games released its next giant hit, Gears of War. Gears of War exceeded even Unreal, becoming one of the best selling video games of all-time. It was also the first non-PC game developed by Epic. In 2007, Epic Games acquired developer People Can Fly, the makers of the Painkiller series. In 2008, Epic partnered with Valve Corporation releasing the entire Unreal series on Valve's digital distribution service, Steam. Epic has also been very critical of Nintendo's Wii console. Epic's current president Mike Capps has been the most vocal. Capps has said that he views the Wii as a step back and that Epic Games will never make a game for the Wii. In May 2008, Epic acquired developer Chair Entertainment, the makers of Undertow. On November 11, 2008, Epic Games China formed a wholly-owned subsidiary named Titan Studios which is based in Seattle, Washington. Their most recent retail release was Gears of War 2, which was met with critical success and has sold very well. On August 19, 2009 Epic will release Shadow Complex (a Metroidvania-style game developed by Chair Entertainment) for the Xbox Live Arcade service.
Mike Capps, President of Epic Games, has stated that Epic is currently looking into comic books for a new IP.





Epic Games is a video game development company most famous for developing Unreal Tournament and more recently, the Gears of War series. Their Unreal Engine 3 has also been quite prolific.
History
In 1991, Tim Sweeney founded Potomac Computer Systems in Rockville, Maryland. The same year, Potomac Computer Systems released their debut title, ZZT which quickly became on the most popular DOS games of all-time. Potomac Computer Systems would soon be renamed Epic MegaGames. The company quickly became one of the prominent shareware developers, making such games as Epic Pinball, Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit, and One Must Fall 2097. Epic MegaGames also became a publisher for many large shareware developers. In 1997, Epic Mega Games purchased Safari Software and released many of their previous title under the newly made Epic Classics brand. The next year, Epic MegaGames hit the big time. The company released a 3D first person shooter by the name of Unreal. Unreal became one of the best selling first person shooter franchises in the video game industry and became Epic MegaGames' name stay. The company also licensed the engine that the game ran on, the Unreal engine, to other companies. This engine became the best known engine in the industry, still being used to this day and currently its 3rd version.
