Epoch

Overview

The Epoch (formally known as the Wings of Time) is a time machine in Chrono Trigger. The Epoch can also fly around the overworld map, landing only on solid ground (not trees, mountains, or water). The Epoch was created by Belthasar, the Guru of Reason from the Antiquity. He began creation of the Epoch while living in the Kingdom of Zeal, but it wasn't until he was sent to 2300 A.D. that the project came into fruition. The main reason behind its creation was to return to the Antiquity (12,000 B.C.), but he died before he could use it. Belthasar managed to leave his personality in a robot for other venturers to witness before he fell into insanity.

Later, Crono and his friends found the Epoch locked away in Keeper's Dome in 2300 A.D. Previously, they had been prevented from entering 12,000 B.C., but because of the Epoch, were able to reenter the time period. After the destruction of the Kingdom of Zeal, Dalton captured it and turned it into his own personal vessel (along with the Blackbird). He made the Epoch capable of flight and outfitted it with weaponry. He called it the Aero-Dalton Imperial, but it was quickly recaptured by the party. The Epoch can be used to destroy Lavos' outer shell, and the decision can slightly alter the ending of the game.
