Espio the Chameleon is a pink/purple chameleon-esque character who appears as an integral member of Chaotix (alongside
Vector the Crocodile and
Charmy Bee) in several Sonic the Hedgehog games.
In contrast to many of the other characters in the franchise, Espio is generally thought to be one of the more mysterious characters in any Sonic the Hedgehog game, as not much is known about him or his past.
Espio constantly upholds an indifferent, disciplined, calm, controlled demeanor, in stark contrast to his boisterous comrades in Chaotix.
Abilities
He specializes in stealth, as suggested by his chameleon-like appearance. He can of course change the color of his skin to match the surrounding environment, therefore allowing him to blend in and become almost completely invisible.
Espio also possesses abilities reminiscent of a ninja. He uses shuriken in battle, as depicted in the video game Sonic Heroes, where he fights alongside fellow Chaotix members (the aforementioned Vector and Charmy).
Espio is the Speed-oriented character of Team Chaotix, Vector being the Power character, and Charmy of course being the Fly character.
Appearances
Espio has appeared in several Sonic games to date, the first of which was the largely and unfairly ignored
Knuckles' Chaotix. He appeared as a playable character in
Sonic the Fighters, and as the Speed character of Team Chaotix in
Sonic Heroes.
He also appears as a somewhat minor character in the popular anime Sonic X and in the game
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, he is served as the referee in various events. The
Winter version of the game shares the same thing as the Summer.Espio appears in the ds version of the game sonic colours, along with the rest of the chaotix.
